Police: Hatfield Borough man assaulted estranged wife
George Goodman III, 38, faces strangulation, assault other charges
A 38-year-old Hatfield Borough man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his estranged wife, according to police.
George H. Goodman III, of the 500 block of South Main Street, has been charged with second-degree felony strangulation, second-degree misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment in connection with the alleged Aug. 17 domestic incident.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, Hatfield police responded to Goodman’s home that afternoon and met with Goodman’s wife, who was extremely upset and crying as she told cops that Goodman — from whom she is separated — assaulted her when she came to the home to check on her dogs.
She said that Goodman grabbed her by the throat and squeezed so that she couldn’t breathe while he punched her in the head, then let go of her throat and punched her again in the chest and neck, according to the affidavit.
Officers observed redness and swelling to the side of her head, redness around her throat and upper chest area, and scratches on her arm, according to court documents.
Goodman had fled the residence before cops arrived, but he was taken into custody and arraigned that night, then committed to Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
Jail records indicated Monday that Goodman has been released after posting bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 31.
