George Washington Burgess III of Harleysville.
George Washington Burgess III, age 72, of Harleysville, died peacefully and suddenly Wednesday, Aug. 23, while walking his beloved horse Shammy. Born in Sellersville, he was the son of the late George Washington Burgess Jr. and J. Elizabeth (Berkheimer) Burgess.
George graduated from North Penn High School, after which time he attended Broome Community College in New York. He was a land surveyor and civil engineer for Urwiler and Walter, Sumneytown and Telford.
George enjoyed equestrian activities, including competitive riding and jumping. He was a member of Buxmont Riding Club, where he also served as a board member. He was a willing and eager volunteer to many. George was a firm believer and a skilled craftsman in repurposing just about anything.
He is survived by his children, Betsy Mullan and husband Peter of Wilmington, DE, and David Burgess and wife Jessica of Royersford; and five grandchildren, Sarah Mullan, Anna Mullan, Isabella Burgess, Alyssa Burgess and Brandon Burgess.
The family will greet friends Wed. Aug. 30, 5-7PM at Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home Inc., 667 Harleysville Pike, Telford, Franconia Twp. At 7PM there will be a celebration of his life, where those attending may share their memories.
