Vision, concerns for Upper Gwynedd’s future fuel voter’s decision for November

- Dennis O. Miranda Upper Gwynedd

The Giant Supermarket, empty, desolate and chained to deter the public is a testimony to the current leadership of Upper Gwynedd Township Commission. Adrift, rudderless and perhaps invisible are apt terms to describe the lack of leadership by our current Commission to see this under-utilized eyesore restored as a vital cog in our community. Whether it should be revived as a supermarket, open-air cafes and trendy restaurants or a mixed use development, this prime location in our community cries for attention but barely gets a whimper.

The campaign of Denise Hull and Liz McNaney for Township Commission, a dynamic duo who are passionate, committed and intelligent leaders for us are the peoples’ choice to lead the Commission in 2018. But we must elect them for office successfully.

Their central concerns are our concerns. First we must develop a new master plan that sets a course to revive the Giant supermarket, Sumney Forge strip mall on the corners of Sumneytown Pike and Valley Forge Road. Working with our community

to set a new vision for future commercial, residential, service-oriented and residences is a priority for us.

Striving to preserve the last farms and open space in our built-out community requires a new, muscular approach. The current commission are throwing their collective in hands in the air as Pulte Homes seeks approval to build 27 homes on 24 acres of fields of the Martin Farm on Allentown Road. The commission supports the development even

though the farm is listed both on the Montgomery County and Upper Gwynedd Township Open Space Plans as a tract of land worthy of preservation.

Upper Gwynedd Township had a public divorce with Towamencin Township over their former jointly run sewer plant on Kriebel Road. Now, Upper Gwynedd Township wants half of the municipality to hook up at the UGT sewer plant on Township Line Road. The project will cost $40 million and you the resident will be paying for it. How much? No one is telling. Denise and Liz must learn the facts

and protect the taxpayers as much as possible from needless tax increases.

The sleepy campaign of Clare Edelmayer and recently appointed Steve Sands are calculating that you will not notice the glaring lack of leadership on our commission and assume that this is business as usual. Are these elected officials deserving of your vote? NOT! Vote for Denise Hull and Liz McNaney for a genuine selfless and thoughtful leadership. Only you can vote for change! Now is the time!
