Sunday, October 15: Norristown Farm Park at 2 p.m. All ages are welcome. $5 per scarecrow. Pre-registrati­on is required: 610-270-0215 Come to the park to make your fall scarecrow. Join the contest to see who can make the scariest, the most original, and the best overall scarecrow. Bring the clothes you want to use, something to make a head with, and a hat for your creation. The park will supply the straw. Meet at the park office.

12TH ANNUAL 5K RUN & 1 MILE ANIMAL SAFARI WALK

Sunday, Oct. 15: RSVP holds their 12th annual RUN WILD 5K Run & 1 Mile Animal Safari Walk at the Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown. Proceeds will benefit RSVP’s children’s programs and Zoo Conservati­on. Registrati­on begins at 8 a.m. with events starting at 9 a.m, rain or shine. THE AMERICAN SONGBOOK

Wednesday, Oct. 17: At 6:30 p.m., the Lower Providence Community Library will host The American Songbook, performed by Theresa D’Andrea and Thad Shirey. The American Songbook is a musical celebratio­n of the great American composers and lyricists. There will be selections from Porter, Gershwin and Berlin and the program will also include songs from Broadway. Theresa has made many concert appearance­s performing with orchestras both nationally and internatio­nally. Operatic roles include those in Madame Butterfly, Lucia, The witch in Humperdink’s Hansel & Gretel, The Merry Widow and the title role in Carmen. Terry has also sung leading musical theatre roles in touring and regional companies throughout the United States and has worked in films, infomercia­ls and voice-overs. She is a profession­al cantorial soloist and is a dialect specialist in 6 languages. Thad Shirey’s numerous credits include performanc­es at Carnegie Hall, the New York Grand Opera, The Hilton Head Symphony, guest artist in The Brahms Requiem and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Some of Thad’s Broadway repertoire includes principal roles in Man of La Mancha, Showboat and A Little Night Music. This program is free and open to the public. Registrati­on requested. GRAVE TALES

Saturday, Oct. 21: Join the W.S. Hancock Society as we traverse a new location and another phenomenal graveyard that spans the centuries. If you’re a follower of Grave Tales, you’re sure to be wowed by this most unusual array of headstone symbolism, funeral practices and history. Our daytime tour leaves from the church at 12 noon and our evening tours will begin at 6 pm and then every half hour with the last tour leaving at 8:30 pm. While you wait for your tour to begin, drink in a presentati­on on remarkable headstones from around the nation. Please dress weather appropriat­e, wear comfortabl­e and sturdy walking shoes and bring a flashlight or lantern. We are NOT a haunted attraction. During this informativ­e session, parents and students will learn: -How to determine your family’s Expected Family Contributi­on -The difference between need-based and merit-based financial aid -Strategies to maximize and enhance your financial aid package -What colleges and universiti­es value on their applicatio­ns -Where to find outside scholarshi­p programs -The true cost of attendance at local and national colleges and universiti­es.
