Anyone who saw Erin Stevenson play for Pennridge last season knew the midfielder could hang at the college level.

It would just be a matter of how long it took Stevenson to adjust to the higher pace of play and bigger, stronger Division I players she would be facing. Stevenson, a freshman at UMBC, fit right into the Golden Retrievers’ starting lineup and was putting together a solid rookie campaign.

Sunday, she finished off her first season with a major statement.

Stevenson scored a hat-trick in a bit less than 12 minutes as UMBC upset America East leading New Hampshire 3-1. New Hampshire scored in the third minute and held the lead until Stevenson’s first goal came in the 72nd minute. A throw-in found the freshman in front of the net, where she fired it home.

Her second goal was a header that directed a long pass from the midfield into the back of the net in the 77th minute and Stevenson capped her effort with a finish inside the box in the 83rd minute.

Staying in the America East, Hartford sophomore Bridgette Alexander (Lower Moreland) continued her strong season with her seventh goal of the year in Sunday’s 3-2 overtime loss to Binghamton.
