The blue wave that swept through much of Montgomery County Tuesday night appears to not have made it to Hatfield Township.

Unofficial results from the Montgomery County Department of Voter Services put incumbent Republican tax collector Christina Murphy solidly ahead of Democrat challenger Dottie Miller, by a margin of 1,550 votes (59.18 percent) for Murphy to 1,069 votes (40.82 percent) for Miller.

“My heartfelt thanks to the residents of Hatfield Township who came out yesterday and voted for me. I realize for some of you it was a difficult decision to cross party lines, and for that I am most thankful,” Murphy said Wednesday.

Murphy will now continue in the position she has held for more than two decades, and said she appreciated the help from family and friends who worked at the polls on election day, in addition to “the residents who let me plaster signs all over their properties.”

“I welcome this opportunity to continue serving the residents of our great township,” she said.

Elsewhere on the ballot, two incumbent Republican commissioners both won uncontested races: board President Tom Zipfel was re-elected to represent Ward 4, with 251 votes from Republican voters and 237 from Democrats, and incumbent Republican Bob Rodgers was re-elected with 191 Republican votes and 155 Democrat votes.
