Police warn of aggressive driving enforcement push
Over 44,000 citations issued during similar push last year
Hatfield Township police and numerous departments statewide are beginning a targeted aggressive driving enforcement drive over the next month.
From March 19 through April 29, the Hatfield township Police Department will join the Pennsylvania State Police and over 235 municipal agencies to conduct a wave of enforcement across the state.
Police said in a statement Thursday that the aim of the aggressive driving enforcement and education project is to reduce the number of crashes, injuries and deaths on Pennsylvania roadways caused by aggressive driving. Any aggressive driver stopped by police will receive a citation, and the enforcement wave will also focus on speeding, work zone safety violations, and drivers keeping to the right and passing on the left.
A similar campaign last year resulted in municipal police agencies writing over 44,000 aggressive driving-related citations including over 27,0000 for speeding and nearly 2,500 for failing to stop for red lights or stop signs. The last enforcement campaign also accounted for 33 felony arrests, 94 fugitives apprehended, 137 impaired driving arrests and 1,203 occupant protection citations, according to police.
The aggressive driving enforcement is part of the Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education Project, and is funded by PennDOT and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. For more information visit www.PennDOT.gov/safety.
