Lehigh’s Parker earns AllAmerican honors
Lehigh wrestling junior Scott Parker (Sellersville/Pennridge) earned All-American honors for the second straight season as he finished seventh at 133 pounds at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in Cleveland last week.
Parker wrestled six times at Quicken Loans Arena, earning four victories, the last a 5-2 decision over Wyoming’s Montorie Bridges in the 133 seventh-place match.
Parker — seeded sixth — finished the season 22-5, opened NCAAs with a pair of victories last Thursday — in the Round of 32 edging Cam Sykova of North Dakota State 2-1 in tiebreak then besting Pitt’s Dom Forys 7-5 in the Round of 16.
Parker fell in last Friday’s quarterfinals to Luke Pletcher of Ohio State 3-1. He bounced back with a 3-1 decision over Minnesota’s Mitch McKeen in the fourth round of consolation than ended the night falling 5-2 to Scott DelVecchio of Rutgers.
Parker wrestled once Saturday — getting the decision over Bridges for seventh and helping Lehigh take 15th in the team standing with 36.5 points.
• Marywood baseball’s Jake Schuster (Lansdale/ North Penn) was selected as Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Player of the Week
Schuster hit .464 with four doubles and a home run as the Pacers went 4-4 last week on their Spring Break trip to Fort Pierce, Florida. Schuster had a .714 slugging percentage and a perfect 1.000 field percentage.
• Hood College baseball’s Nate Luscombe (Harleysville/Souderton) earned his secondstraight MAC Commonwealth Pitcher of the Week honors after his completegame shutout in the Blazers’ 1-0 victory over Messiah in the conference opener last Thursday.
Luscombe allowed five hits in his seven innings on the mound, struck out 10 and did not walk a batter
as he threw his second complete game of the season and improved his record to 3-0 on the year.
• Delaware Valley baseball’s Ben Lippincott (Perkasie/Pennridge) was named MAC Freedom Pitcher of the Week after earning the win in the Aggies’ 15-0 win over Western Connecticut State last Wednesday in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Lippincott did not give up a run in throwing the first six innings for DVU. He gave up 10 hits, no walks and struck out seven to go 2-1 on the season.
• Jared Melone (North Wales/North Penn) went 3-for-5 with a home run — his third of the season — a double, six RBIs and two runs scored as the West Chester baseball team erased an 11-4 deficit after four innings to beat Slippery Rock 24-15 last Wednesday at the D9 Sunshine State Games in Kissimmee, Florida.
Melone hit a three-run home run in the third then plate two more runs with a double in the sixth.
Justin Horn (Willow Grove/Upper Dublin) was 2-for-6 for WCU with a double, an RBI and four
runs scored.
• Alex Louin (Doylestown/Mount Saint Joseph) recorded her sixth double-double of the season, collecting 10 points and 14 rebounds while also dishing out eight assists as the ninth-seeded Villanova women’s basketball team defeated No. 8 South Dakota State 8174 in overtime in the first round of the NCAA Division I Tournament last Friday in South Bend, Indiana. The victory was the Wildcats’ first in the tournament since 2004.
Sunday, Louin had six points, four rebounds, an assist and a block as Villanova fell 98-72 to topseeded Notre Dame in the second round as the Wildcats finished the season 23-9.
• Cabrini men’s lacrosse’s Riley White (Plymouth Meeting/Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named CSAC) Defensive Player of the Week for the third consecutive week.
The Cavaliers goalkeeper had seven saves and five ground balls in last Wednesday’s 9-8 win over Ohio Wesleyan. White then stopped 15 shots as Cabrini topped Ursinus 1912 last Saturday.
• Jackie Bilotti (North Wales/North Penn) went 3-for-4 with five RBIs — driving in three with a triple in the third inning — and scored a run as the Arcadia softball team defeated Lebanon Valley College 9-2 in the second game of a doubleheader Sunday.
Bilotti went 2-for-3 with two runs scored as the Knights fell 4-3 in the day’s first game.
• Amber Lambeth (Harleysville/Souderton) scored twice while Jackie Cerchio (Audubon/Methacton) added a goal as the Temple women’s lacrosse team edged Denver 10-9 Sunday in the Big East opener for both teams. The win improves the Owls to 6-3 overall.
