In the strangest of endings, the Valley Forge Bucks and Ambler Brewers game got suspended with one out in the bottom of the seventh in game two of the Perkiomen Valley Twilight semifinal series.

With Ambler having the bases loaded with only one out, lightning visible behind home plate forced the umpires to suspend the game with the Bucks leading 7-1.

The game will resume at 5:45 p.m. tomorrow with Ambler hoping to come back from the six-run deficit.

Ambler head coach Pete Moore, who went 1-for-2 with one run offensively, explained the rule of finishing the game in the Perky League.

“The league changed the rule that the game must go the full seven innings,” said Moore. “The team that’s trailing has to right to concede if they want to, but surely don’t want to do that with the bases loaded and one out.”

Both teams struck for one run in the first inning to make the score 1-1 after one inning.

Valley Forge took the lead for itself with back-to-back singles to give the Bucks a 3-1 lead.

The Bucks came up big in the top of the seventh inning with four runs on four hits with all four runs coming with two outs to make the score 7-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh.

Highlighting the top of the seventh inning for the Bucks was Ryan Richter, who crushed

an RBI double to right-center field.

Valley Forge head coach Mike Fazio was thrilled for his team’s performance despite the disappointing ending to the game.

“We looked really good tonight,” said Fazio. “We were hitting on all cylinders and Chris Baker looked great in his first playoff start as the designated hitter.”

Chris Baker went 1-for-2 with a run scored and two walks in the game on Thursday.

Ryan Barth, if it weren’t for the game getting suspended, would’ve earned the victory on Thursday and will now have a chance to finish it on Friday looking for the final two outs.

Barth has pitched all 6.1 innings on Thursday letting go seven hits and only one earned run while striking out three Brewers.

Game two of the semifinal series will resume tomorrow, August 3 at 5:45 p.m. Game three will now be played on Monday, August 6 at Valley Forge.
