South, Reilly too much for Upper Dublin
Titans senior tallies 100th career point in win over Cardinals
Upper Dublin had no answer for Central Bucks South senior Casey Reilly.
The La Salle University commit scored four goals and tallied her 100th career point in the Titans 9-1 win over the Cardinals Monday afternoon at Upper Dublin High School.
Reilly reached the milestone on her first goal of the game. She took a shot from in front of the net, but Upper Dublin goalie Meghan Muth was there to make the save. Reilly grabbed the rebound and shot again — this one deflecting off of Muth and into the
back of the cage.
“I’m really thrilled to finally get that,” Reilly, who has been playing varsity since the middle of her freshman year, said. “I’ve been working towards it for a long time now. My parents and coaches have been encouraging me. I’m really happy I finally reached my goal.”
“Our league is so good it’s hard for anybody to get 100 points,” South coach Pat Toner said. “You feel like it’s a playoff game ev-
ery single game. I’m really proud of her for that. She’s been working really hard.”
She scored again less than two minutes later, ripping a slapper from the edge of the circle on a penalty corner.
Reilly added two more goals in the second half — the first came less than eight minutes after intermission and the second with 6:13 remaining on a breakaway.
“She’s got a very good stick, a very quick stick,” Upper Dublin coach Heather Boyer said of Reilly. “She has a very versatile shot selection. She’s a fun player to watch. She can create opportunities in the circle, whether it’s on corners, open shots, breakaways — she’s very good.”
The Cardinals (5-4-1) tried face-guarding Reilly, but couldn’t stop her.
“Today they really did a good job guarding me the whole time,” Reilly said. “Sometimes people do that, but they don’t usually do it the whole game and pretty much the whole game they were really on me. It was kind of difficult to get around them, but I eventually did it.”
The Titans (7-5-1) took full control of the game midway through the first half.
Already leading 1-0 thanks to an Ashley Timby goal, South found the back of the cage four times in a 3:28 span to make it a 5-0 lead and start the running clock.
Sophia Wasyliw scored twice to make it 3-0 before Reilly got two quick goals.
“We really have good passing and we really know how to work as a team,” Reilly said. “We get the ball down the field really easily when we work as a team. That really helped.”
“They were better,” Boyer said. “My kids certainly worked hard, they put good effort out there, but CB South has some really talented kids. That’s why you sometimes put games like this on the schedule — you want to show kids what to aspire to be. It’s an important thing to see. Sometimes it’s tough when you’ve got competitive kids that want to win — it’s tough to be on the receiving end of that — but it’s a good lesson to learn because that’s what you want to work towards.”
Upper Dublin trimmed its deficit to four, 5-1, before halftime, but that’s as close as they’d get. Ryann Kullman took a big shot on a penalty corner and Maisie Hanson deflected it past the goalie.
Reilly’s two second-half goals were sandwiched around goals from Melanie Dunton and Katherine Peppiatt to make it a 9-1 Titans win.
Muth was tested early and often in Upper Dublin’s cage. She made 20 saves in the loss.
