PERFECT 10

North Penn finishes off 10-0 regular season with rout of Tennent

- Staff reports

North Penn put a polished finish on an undefeated regular season Friday night, pulling away early from William Tennent in a 56-14, mercyrule victory.

The Knights, ranked first in the District 1-6A standings going into the evening, raised their record to a perfect 10-0, including a 6-0 run through the Suburban One League Continental Conference. The Panthers finished the season 2-8 overall and 0-6 in the conference.

North Penn, clinching its second 10-0 regular season in three years, scored on all five of its first-half possessions as well as William Tennent’s first.

On the fourth play from scrimmage, Shamar Edwards intercepted Panther quarterback Jason Schweizerhof and raced into the night, 70 yards for

a touchdown and a quick 7-0 Knight lead.

On North Penn’s opening offensive series, R.J. Macnamara came bursting through the middle and scored on a 16-yard run, boosting the lead to 14-0.

North Penn wasn’t done, and neither was Macnamara.

On the next possession, the junior broke free for 67 yards, widening the gap to 21-0. Soon after, quarterback Solomon Robinson threw deep down the middle to Evan Spann, who caught it at the five and trotted in for a 55-yard score and a 28-0 North Penn advantage.

Onto the second quarter.

Edwards raced down the left sideline for a 77yard touchdown and then scored his third TD of the night, this one an 18-yard run that ensured a running clock for the second half, making it 42-7 at the break.

Sandwiched in between was a nice, 15-yard hookup between Schweizerhof and wide receiver Dawson Pierson for a touchdown.

North Penn added a TD by Kaleem Corbin (two yards) in the third quarter and one by Josh McHoul (two yards) in the fourth.

Tennent closed it out with a 43-yard connection from Kip Mooney to Ryan Savage. LA SALLE 26, ROMAN CATHOLIC 14 >> La Salle’s defense played solid and quarterback Sean Daly did the work with his legs.

The Explorers topped

Roman Catholic 26-14 behind three rushing touchdowns and 146 yards from Daly

The first quarter ended in a scoreless tie despite a long drive by La Salle. An untimely flag and a sack backed the Explorers up and forced a punt.

La Salle got a stop and forced a punt on the last play of the first quarter, then capitalized. Sean Daly broke free on the first play of the second half for a 41yard scoring run.

The Explorers defense then had to make a stand, stuffing Roman inches short at the three on a 4th-and-2 to prevent a tying score.

La Salle’s offense couldn’t do anything off the stop, punting the ball away but the defense came up with another big play. A fumbled handoff hit turf and Abdul Carter dove on the ball to recover the fumble.

Carter got a chance to make Roman pay and did, running in an 11-yard TD to make it 14-0 at half.

Daly busted loose for a 68-yard touchdown on the first play of the second half. He finished the run with a score thanks to a monster block from receiver Luke Hardy well down the field.

Early in the fourth quarter, Daly made it a hat trick on a 34 yard scoring run.

Malachi Harris ran the ensuing kickoff back 95 yards to put Roman on board. The Cahillites cut the lead to 26-14 when Ivan Thorpe took a fake punt around the left edge and 72 yards for the TD. UPPER DUBLIN 43, UPPER MORELAND 6 >> Upper Dublin completed its regular season with a 43-6 Suburban

One League American Conference win over Upper Moreland Friday night at Upper Dublin High School’s Cardinal Stadium.

The Cardinals, who clinched the SOL American title last week, will head to the playoffs with an 8-1 record, including a perfect 6-0 in league play.

Upper Dublin took control from the start.

Micah Bootman grabbed an interception on Upper Moreland’s first play of the game.

That was the start of 34 straight points for the Cardinals.

Quarterback Mike Slivka connected with Dylan Zlotnikoff and Lucas Nina-Boesler for touchdowns in the first half while completing six of eight passes for 119 yards. Mason Novak rushed for a first-half score and Roselli added a second touchdown before intermission.

Upper Moreland’s Jon Knight connected with Jahair Johnson for a 13-yard touchdown with 34 seconds left in the first half to send the teams to the locker room with Upper Dublin ahead, 34-6.

The Cardinals put their reserves into the game early in the third quarter.

The Upper Dublin defense added a safety and Jacob Rossman ran for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. CB SOUTH 30, SOUDERTON 7 >> DeAndre Wakefield had a 12 yard TD run and Tim Zucal came up with an interception but it wasn’t enough for the Indians Friday night.
