CHRISTMAS TREE DECORATING FOR WILDLIFE Sunday, Dec. 2: Come out and help park staff trim a tree with edible ornaments for both feathered and furry friends. Event is at 1 p.m. Join in making and hanging the treats and take some home for decorating in your own backyard. Fun for the whole family! Meet in the Salt Wing, adjacent to the park office. MORNING BIRD WALK
Tuesday, Dec. 4: from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Come to the regular first Tuesday of the month guided bird walk at Norristown Farm Park. Expect to see winter resident species such as woodpeckers, seed-eating songbirds, and raptors. Bring binoculars if you have them. Join park staff in the Salt Wing after the walk for hot beverages and snacks. The bird walk starts in parking lot #3. All ages are welcome to attend this free program. Pre-registration is required. REINDEER ROMP
Tuesday, Dec. 4: At 1 p.m. Participants will learn about reindeer and other animals of the far north during this seasonal program. Differences between reindeer, caribou, elk, moose, and our local white-tailed deer will be discussed. Children will hear a story, play active reindeer games, and make a reindeer craft. Meet in the Salt Wing. This program is appropriate for children ages three and up accompanied by an adult. The cost is $5.00 per child. Pre-registration is required. LOWER PROVIDENCE TREE LIGHTING
Friday, Dec. 7: Join Lower Providence for an evening of old-fashioned fun as the township hosts its 10th annual Community Tree Lighting on Friday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. at the Township complex, 100 Parklane Drive, Eagleville. Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman will be on hand to pose for photos as everyone waits for Santa and Mrs. Claus to arrive by fire truck. Santa and Mrs. Claus will lead the crowd in counting down the lighting of the impressive 50’ tree. Once the tree is lit, it’s off for a visit and photo with Santa in the Winter Wonderland area, where the bocce pavilion has been transformed by sparkling decorations, toy trains, and holiday scenes. The evening will also feature sounds of the season presented by the Arcola Intermediate Unit Select Chorus, “reindeer games” – carnival activities for all ages, and hot chocolate, cookies and refreshments compliments of the Lower Providence Optimist Club and local businesses.

LITERACY COUNCIL OF NORRISTOWN
Are you looking for a meaningful volunteer experience, which will impact the lives of adult learners and their families? If so, LCN needs you! LCN matches adult volunteer tutors with other adults needing help with reading, writing, math, GED preparation or English as a Second Language (ESL). Volunteer tutors attend a 1.5 hour Orientation and 12hour Tutor Training Workshop before being matched with a student. The pair is then expected to meet at a public place twice weekly for 1.5 hours per session for a minimum of six months or until the student goal is met. FREE HEALTH SCREENINGS
First Sundays of the month: Free health screenings at St. Patrick Church hall, DeKalb and Chestnut streets, Norristown, from noon to 3. The faculty and students from St. Joseph’s University Institute for bioethics, the Sisters of Mercy Health Services and many others have been key players in helping our parish with this important outreach as we have expanded the services provided. Several of our own parishioners have been trained as health promoters and do the screening with the help of others. We are continuing to expand the range of services to include referrals to clinics. The goals of this effort are to increase medical knowledge and care, to save lives and to enable better use of hospital resources. The focus is on the underserved populations near us, but we welcome all parishioners to come see what’s happening and see if there may be a role for you. The next screening is scheduled for December 2.

Blue Bell School of Dance: 921 Penllyn-Blue Bell Pike, Blue Bell, hosts Argentine Tango Classes and a Milonga dance party every Friday evening. Lessons start at 8:30 p.m. followed by dancing at 9:30 p.m. Andrew Conway, master Argentine Tango dancer, instructor and performer and his partner Linda Chase will instruct. KID’S MOVIE CLUB
Third Saturdays of the month: The Centre Theater will launch the new Kid’s Movie Club on the first floor in a newly renovated space that holds 40 movie-goers. On the third Saturday of every month beginning at 10:30 a.m. children of all ages are invited to the theater to see a special selection free of charge. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The Centre Theater is located at 208 DeKalb St. in Norristown. There is free parking on the street and a parking garage less than a hundred yards away from the theater.
