CONSHOHOCKEN >> Many businesses add staff at this time of year to handle increased business during the busy holiday season.

Among the businesses adding personnel is Allied Universal, a leading security and facility services company with headquarters in Conshohocken and Santa Ana, Calif.

Allied is actively hiring an estimated 4,000 seasonal employees across the country. In the Philadelphia region, there are about 50 positions currently open for seasonal help, according to Jason Zigman, Allied Universal’s vice president of recruiting for the East division.

Workers hired by Allied Universal provide extra security coverage because of increased foot traffic, longer store hours, tree lighting ceremonies, tourist attractions and other festivities, according to the company.

“We’ve been building our client base, expanding in general and growing. We have more need, combined with low unemployment and a hot labor market. Our focus is on recruiting, and getting the right people for our jobs.” — Jason Zigman, Allied Universal’s vice president of recruiting — east division

“We live in a time where security is an important component to life,” Zigman said. “But there is also a customer service component. It’s about finding the candidate and matching them to the right job.”

In addition to the seasonal workers, Zigman said the company has an ongoing need for permanent employees — and currently has about 150 permanent jobs open across the Philadelphia region.

With an estimated total of 200,000 employees, Allied works to protect more than 42,000 client sites across North America in areas that include retail shopping centers, commercial real estate, higher education, residential locations and hospitals.

“We’ve been building our client base, expanding in general and growing,” Zigman said. “We have more need, combined with

low unemployment and a hot labor market. Our focus is on recruiting, and getting the right people for our jobs.”

Zigman said Allied’s uniformed security officers are, “on the front lines, and are often the first responders.” He added that while the company hires candidates

that may have some security experience, it looks for a broader range of skills, backgrounds and experience levels.

“We like people who have great customer service skills. That’s important for us. We provide unparalleled service, systems, and solutions to serve, secure and care for the people and businesses in our communities,” he said. “We can train people to do the rest — as long as they have a service

mentality and a service orientation that they want to service and care for people in businesses.”

Zigman added that its workforce includes students, people looking for a second job for supplemental income or those looking for part-time employment or a more flexible work schedule.

“We have national partnerships with AARP, military and workforce organizations — our recruitment

spans the entire spectrum,” Zigman said. “It takes all types of people to put our teams together. We like having a diverse workforce. We want people who want to show up every day and work with passion.”

Allied Universal offers flexibility, benefits, training and career opportunities.

Seasonal workers have an excellent chance of being brought on board permanently, according to Zigman, because they’re required

to go through the same rigorous training as full-time employees.

“Frequently, people who work seasonal jobs during holiday, find they want to stay on. There is an active effort as the season starts winding down to engage seasonal employees to put them into permanent positions. If we can keep all who do a good job for us, we can do that,” he added.
