LOWER SALFORD >> Stahl, Tyson and Lucon roads and some of the streets in the Springbrook and Beechwood developments are on the list of road improvement projects this year.

An overview of the plans was given by Public Works Director Doug Jones at the March 20 Lower Salford Township Board of Supervisors meeting.

The plans include a 1.5inch overlay, base repairs, curb and joint milling, and leveling on the portion of Stahl Road between Clemens Road and the cul-desac, he said.

NovaChip coating, minor base repairs, crack sealing and curb line milling is planned for Stormfield Drive, Thatcher Circle and Boggs Circle in the Springbook development and Coddington Way, Vanderbilt Lane, Morgan Way and Brenton Circle in the Beechwood development, he said.

The Springbook work completes sections not done previously, he said. The Beechwood work includes streets except for Arbor Drive, which is the main street in the development, he said.

“The thought process is we bring everything out to the main drive and then next year, we’ll do the main road within the development,” Jones said.

Cape sealing is planned for Tyson and Lucon roads, with base repairs also planned for Lucon Road, he said.

“Total estimated cost for the 2019 Road Improvement Program is $442,750. Budgeted funds are $449,586. All roads listed above equate to improving 3.58 miles of the Township’s 80.30 miles of municipally-owned roadways,” Jones wrote in information to the board.

In another matter at the meeting, Jones said the public works department is beginning mulching on public flower beds, including ones at the township building, firehouse and township parks.

“We’re gonna do things a little differently this year. We’re gonna rent a mulch blower and blow the mulch into these beds trying to save time and effort and material. We’re thinking in the long run it’s gonna pay for itself,” Jones said.

“We’ll be able to put in a much thinner layer than by hand,” he said. “Most of the beds just need a little touch-up.”
