Jersey Mike’s gives a boost to charity
Area Jersey Mike’s Subs raise nearly $78,000 during month of giving
PHILADELPHIA >> Twenty Jersey Mike’s Subs location in eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and the WilkesBarre area raised just shy of $78,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand during the company’s ninth annual Month of Giving in March. That figure was up almost $5,000 over 2018’s results.
Jersey Mike’s Subs’ 1,500 U.S. locations raise money for charities every March, culminating in a “Day of Giving” at the end of the month, where 100 percent of sales for the day go to the designated charity. This year’s Day of Giving was March 27. Across the county, the charity recipients included schools, hospitals, youth organizations, food banks and more.
The national campaign raised more than $7.3 million for more than 200 charities across the county — up more
than $1 million over year’s total.
In 2018, Jersey Mike’s locations across the region raised nearly $74,000 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand during the campaign; while more than $6 million was raised nationally.
“I would like to thank last
our extraordinary customers, franchise owners, team members and charity partners who helped us raise the most ever during Jersey Mike’s 9th Annual Month of Giving in March,” Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike’s founder and CEO, said in a press release. “Our mission statement has always been focused on making a difference in people’s lives, and the record-setting amount raised this March will go a
long way toward supporting the good work of our local partner charities.”
Across the region, Jersey Mike’s locations in Blue Bell, West Chester, Phoenixville, Horsham, Glen Mills, Radnor, Trexlertown, Qaukertown, Easton, Feasterville and two Reading locations participated in the event. They joined forces forces with New Jersey and Wilkes-Barre area stores in support of Alex’s Lemonade
Stand, which works to fund research and raise awareness about childhood cancer. It was the third year the Philadelphia-area locations supported Alex’s Lemonade Stand.
The Philadelphia-area stores raised a total of $42,578, while the six New Jersey stores raised $26,479 and the two Wilkes-Barrearea stores raised $8,889.
Cancro bought his first sub shop, in Point Pleasant
Beach, N.J. where he grew up, when he was 17. He credits two local businessmen — Jack Baker of Baker’s Lobster Shanty and Bob Hoffman of Hoffman’s Ice Cream — with showing him the importance of giving to the community, according to the release.
Since 2010, Jersey Mike’s locations throughout the country have raised more than $41 million for local
charities and have distributed more than 2 million free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.
