Thrift shop donates $54,000 to nonprofits

PHOENIXVIL­LE >> The Thrift Shop of Phoenixvil­le recently donated $54,000 to 13 area nonprofit organizati­ons. The figure was an increase of $4,000 over last year’s total.

Since the shop opened in 1975, the all-volunteer staffed Thrift Shop has raised and donated a total of $950,000, according to a press release.

24. Elaine Locascio, Thrift Shop president, presented the donations to each organizati­on:

• Ann’s Heart (Code Blue Ministry)

• Cancer Center at Phoenixvil­le Hospital

• Community Health Education & Outreach

• Healthcare Access Program

• Mom’s House

• Orion Communitie­s

• Phoenixvil­le Area Community Services

• Phoenixvil­le Women’s Outreach – The House

• Senior Adult Activity Center

• St. Mary’s Franciscan Shelter

• Technical College High School Healthcare scholarshi­p

• The Clinic

• The Daniel Foundation

Initially, the money raised by the Thrift Shop was donated directly to Phoenixvil­le Hospital. That was changed about 10 years ago, and the organizati­on began making the donations directly to community organizati­ons.

The Thrift Shop of Phoenixvil­le is located at 238 Church Street in Phoenixvil­le. The shop sells clothing, jewelry, accessorie­s, toys, housewares and small furniture. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations are accepted during operating hours.
