Man jailed for domestic assault in woman’s home
NORRISTOWN >> A Philadelphia man is on his way to jail for assaulting a Montgomery Township woman during a domestic-related incident.
Stanley C. Martin Jr., 40, of the 8500 block of Alicia Street, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to one-to-23-months in the county jail on misdemeanor charges of simple assault and terroristic threats in connection with the May 2018 incident at the victim’s Montgomery Township home.
Judge Risa Vetri Ferman, who convicted Martin of the charges during a one day, non-jury trial, also ordered Martin to complete two years’ pro
bation following parole, meaning Martin will be under court supervision for about four years. Martin
also must complete 100 hours of community service.
The judge said Martin must complete a domestic violence counseling program and she ordered Martin to have no contact with the victim without prior
court approval.
The judge acquitted Martin of more serious felony charges of strangulation and aggravated assault.
An investigation began on May 23, 2018, when Montgomery Township police responded to a residence
in the 300 block of Ellison Drive for a report of a physical domestic incident. Police separated Martin and the victim when they arrived at the residence.
The victim told police Martin assaulted her during an argument that erupted as
they discussed their relationship. Martin “flipped out and began to yell at her,” Montgomery Township Police Officer Adam Deussing alleged in the arrest affidavit.
“She began to leave the basement up the stairs to call the police and Martin pulled her down the stairs,” Deussing alleged, adding the woman claimed Martin choked her to the point it was hard for her to breathe.
Police said they observed abrasions on the victim’s elbows, injuries sustained during the assault.
