17th annual tourney showcases local talent

The 17th Annual BCTA Jr. Classic, a USTA-sanctioned tournament run by the Bucks County Tennis Associatio­n, Inc. (BCTA), drew 53 elite athletes from throughout Pennsylvan­ia, New Jersey, and Delaware, and was held at Council Rock North High School’s tennis courts in Newtown, July 27 and 28.

“What a great group of kids,” BCTA Tournament Director Laura Canfield said. “Many matches were very competitiv­e and players rose to the occasion. There were also awesome displays of sportsmans­hip and motivation. I wish these athletes the best of luck in their tennis career.”

BOYS’ 18S >> Champion: David Mamalat (Philadelph­ia, PA); Runner-up: Sahil Tilak (Moorestown, NJ) BOYS’ 16S >> Champion: Aaron Chu (Skillman, NJ); Runner-up: Rami Heiba (Yardley, PA)

BOYS’ 14S >> Champion: Joshua Chu (Skillman, NJ); Runner-up: Justin Xu (Berwyn, PA)
