YWCA Tri-County Area to host second virtual job fair
July 8 event will focus on positions with AmeriCorps and VISTA
YWCA Tri-County Area plans to hold a second virtual employment fair for job seekers interested in serving as AmeriCorps or VISTA members. The job fair will be held on Wednesday, July 8, from 1 to 2 p.m., via the Zoom conferencing app.
Job seekers will have an opportunity to learn more about AmeriCorps and VISTA during the job fair, learn more about the requirements and details of the open positions, and how to apply. The first virtual employment fair was held in June.
This is the third year for the YWCA’s VISTA program and the second year for the AmeriCorps program, Jean Kowalski, manager of marketing and development for the YWCA Tri-County Area told MediaNews Group in June. Both are programs of the U.S. Corporation for National and Community Service. YW also operates a third Corporation for National and Community Service program, Foster Grandparents Program of Montgomery County.
The current VISTA project is the VISTA Youth Empowerment Survey, with VISTA members investigating youth services in the Pottstown area, with the goal of increasing capacity for all the youth-serving organizations in
Pottstown and making recommendations to fill any gaps in services for area youth, Kowalski had previously said.
There are four positions open, based in Pottstown. The VISTA project is a partnership with GreenAllies and TCN.
AmeriCorps Workforce Navigators will provide direct service to participants in a workforce development program, Dignified Advancement Workforce Navigation (DAWN). AmeriCorps members work one-on-one with participants to assist with finding, obtaining, and maintaining employment. AmeriCorps members will work in Pottstown and Norristown.
AmeriCorps and VISTA members receive living allowances and education credits for their service, as well as ongoing professional development. VISTA members are full-time; AmeriCorps members can be full-time or part-time depending upon each member’s preference.
Registration is required to receive a link to the virtual event, and can be completed at tinyurl. com/ virtual a me rico rps; or at the Events tab atywcatri county area. org. Registrants will be asked for their name, email, address and phone number and will be asked to complete five optional questions.
