Old Glory Barbershop in the works
The name Old Glory Barbershop, of course, is in honor of the American flag, but it’s about even more than that.
“It’s just about the way things used to be and how the country was a lot more neighborly and was good to one another. That’s kind of like what I’m going for,”
Brandon Tyler, who will be opening the new barbershop, said in a telephone interview.
There are too many divisions in the country now, he said.
“Everybody’s trying to tear the place apart, trying to make it their own specific thing,” he said. “We used to actually come together as a team back in the day.”
The exact opening date for the barbershop on 7th
Street in Perkasie hasn’t been set yet, but is planned for sometime in August, he said.
The Sellersville resident said he has been barbering since 2014.
A graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy, Tyler enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he had multiple combat tours as an Explosive Ordinance (EOD) Tech from 2007 until 2012, then was a security contractor from 2012 to 2015, biographical information says.
“In order to provide a better life for his son Brandon left combat and came home to Pennsylvania. He attended Premier Barber Academy and became a licensed Master Barber,” the bio continues.
Tyler said he will initially be the only barber in the shop, but expects to add others.
Information is available at ogbarbershop.com and the Old Glory Barbershop Facebook page.
Services listed on the web page include adult classic haircuts, kids haircuts, straight razor shaves, beard cuts and trims, and buzz cuts.
“It’s a whole lot more than just a barbershop,” Tyler said.
“It’s all about community and taking care of the neighborhood and being good to one another and I think too many shops, they’re just trying to crank people out,” he said.
“They’re looking for a buck,” Tyler said. “I want to be more than that. I kind of want to be a staple in the community.”
