Like Nicky Koch said, it’s all about the crooked number.

And Lansdale put up a good one in the second inning Saturday night, plating seven runs to gain a substantial edge it never lost.

“In the last couple games, we’ve been carrying on with the hits, getting aggressive in the count,” Koch said, “getting runners on and moving them over.

“We wanna get that one inning that really impacts the game.”

The Cannoneers jumped out to a 7-0 lead and went on to a 10-7 victory over Kennett at Memorial Park.

“We have a couple guys who are new so we’re building that team chemistry,” said Koch, a North Penn grad who will play at Delaware Valley University next year. BIG BURST » Lansdale took control in its second at-bat.

The Cannoneers started things with a single by Matt Costello and a walk by starting pitcher Garrett Zimmerman.

Jason Beideman then hit a hard chopper through the left side, scoring Costello for a 1-0 lead. Noah Walton’s single to center doubled the lead moments later.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Koch broke the game open with a single to left, scoring a pair to boost the advantage to 4-0.

Brian Neal smacked a grounder to third baseman Jeremiah Chow that he could not get in front of, the error resulting in two more runs for a 6-0 cushion.

Trevor Sliker’s RBI single widened the gap to 7-0.

Lansdale made it an 8-3 contest in the fifth, keyed by Antonio Maldonado’s double to center.

Kevin O’Neill’s bloop single started a productive sixth for Lansdale, as two Kennett errors helped the Cannoneers add two more runs to make it a 10-3 game. STRONG START » After surrendering a leadoff single to Kennett’s Dante Claudio, Lansdale righthander Garrett Zimmerman was perfect, retiring 11 straight over the next four innings as his Cannoneers built a commanding lead.

After Claudio’s leadoff single,

Zimmerman struck out Jeremiah Chow and catcher Aiden Elam threw out Claudio at second on a steal attempt.

Zimmerman then got Nick Harkin to ground out to end the first.

Zimmerman retired the side in order in the second, third and fourth. He struck out two and walked none during that span.

Kennett was able to get some hits off Zimmerman in the fifth, a two-RBI double by Sam DelCollo and a pair of Lansdale errors combining to shave the margin down to 7-3.

Zimmerman pitched six and a third innings for the win. With the score 10-3, Kennett plated four more in the seventh, taking advantage of hits by Brenden Smith, Shaun Dickerson and Timothy Kratz along with two Cannoneer errors.

Lansdale would travel to Gabelsville A.A. in Boyertown Sunday to take on the Blue Collars at 2 p.m.
