Upper Moreland came out slugging and never stopped.

“We had a hit parade,” said Falcon shortstop Nick Lombardo. “We hit very well.”

Lombardo supplied the first thwack, smacking a first-inning, leadoff double to get things going against rival Harleysville Thursday night.

Lombardo came in to score later in the inning, the Falcons batted around and plated a whopping 11 runs in the third, and the top team in Bux-Mont Connie Mack went on to a rousing 13-0 shutout of Harleysville to raise its record to 13-1.

“I broke out today,” Lombardo said of his night, which included a double, a triple, two runs scored and two RBI. “Hopefully we can keep it going.”

Seven different players had a hit for the visitors at the Harleysville Community Center.

In the third, Justin Richman singled and scored on a ground ball by Griffin Johnson. Connor English, Nick Harley and Shane

Monaghan drew basesloaded walks.

Josh Huddy drove another run in on a sac fly. Colin Williams and Curran Archarya had RBI singles.

Johnson knocked in two more with a single and Lombardo tripled in a pair to make it 12-0.

“We’re playing really well,” said Lombardo, a rising junior at Upper Dublin High. “We only have one loss so hopefully we can keep it that way and win out.

“We have the chemistry. We’ve been playing together for years.”

Josh Huddy pitched two shutout innings to get the win on the mound for the Falcons.

Aidan Sweeney took the loss for Harleysville (5-9). Dante Bruno doubled and Jude Kane had a single for the home squad.

MAKING IT HAPPEN » Upper Moreland is looking to keep building momentum going into the eight-team league tournament, which begins on Sept. 1.

“The kids are swinging the bat,” Falcons coach Ken Irwin said. “We had our first loss (to Central Perk on Aug. 8) and we didn’t hit well. I think that was kind of the best thing that could have happened. Because ever since then, our bats have been much better.”

Upper Moreland is at Plymouth-Whitemarsh Sunday night at 7:30 and Harleysville hosts

Doylestown Saturday at 12 noon.
