The department store’s location at Eatswood Mall in Niles, Ohio, will now open its doors in October 2021.

Boscov’s announced that it is delaying the opening of its second Ohio location for a year.

The Exeter Township-based department store chain said on Wednesday that its location at Eatswood Mall in Niles, Ohio will open its doors in October 2021. In a press release, the company said the store is still coming to the mall, “just not as quickly as everyone would like” because of challenges from the coronavirus pandemic. Construction had stopped temporarily because of the state’s state-at-home order.

Boscov’s also cited pandemic-related supply chain issues that could have prevented the store from being fully stocked in time.

“You only get one chance to introduce a new store the right way,” Boscov’s Chairman and CEO Jim Boscov said in a statement. “We want to give the Mahoning and Shenango Valley communities the grand opening celebration they deserve, full of entertainment, food tastings, educational seminars, and so much more, and to do so with confidence means waiting until 2021.”

Eastwood Mall is located between Youngstown and Warren along Route 422 in the Mahoning Valley, about 65 miles east of Cleveland. The Boscov’s will replace a Sears, cover 180,000 square feet and employ more than 300. Other anchors at Eastwood Mall include Macy’s, J.C. Penney, Target and Dillards. The mall has more than 200 stores.

Boscov’s other Ohio location is at the Ohio Valley Mall in St. Clairsville.
