CRUISIN’ FOR A CAUSE
Modified Cruise Night brings in donations for food pantry
It looked a little different than prior years, but those classic cars rolling through Lansdale did make a difference.
Organizers announced Monday that the tenth annual Lansdale Cruise Night, while modified for COVID-19, was still able to help community members in need.
“The evening went very well, and we had a very good turnout. We had about 125 vehicles pull up to the food drop-off site on Madison Street with donations for Manna on Main Street,” said organizer Bill Henning.
“Many were very generous
with their donations and we collected just as much, if not more, than we typically collect during our annual Cruise Night — which is good, because their shelves are looking rather bare right now,” he said.
Each year for the past decade, classic cars have rolled through town and been judged on various categories, with those participating asked to donate to the nonprofit food pantry. Henning said Monday that while pre- and post-event gatherings were called off due to the pandemic, the dual drives of cars and for food still drew about 200 vehicles total, and spectators who were “spread out through town.”
“With a majority of the Lansdale events canceled for 2020 it was very nice to see some kind of activity happen during such a beautiful evening, and we can’t find an activity more socially distancing than driving around in your own car,” Henning said.
“This was a very simplified version of our typical annual Cruise Night but we are hopeful to be able to get back to the full event next year.”
