PW has athlete test positive for COVID-19
The Colonial School District had one of its student-athletes test positive for the COVID-19 virus the district announced last Saturday in a letter by CSD superintendent Dr. Michael Christian posted on its website.
“Our administrative team has consulted closely with the MCOPH (Montgomery County Office of Public Health) on the specifics of our COVID-19 cases, as well as numerous matters related to the pandemic. We understand that news like this is concerning, and we are doing our very best to manage this positive case in a responsible, responsive and transparent manner,” said Christian in the statement.
The announcement — posted on the district’s website colonialsd. org as “Important announcement: 10/3/20” — stated MCOPH is completing contact tracing and “Due to confidentiality requirements, we are not at liberty to name the individual.”
The school district is cancelling the team’s practices and games for two weeks and any individual who had exposure to the student-athlete is being asked to self-quarantine for 14 days. Exposure, according to the MCOPH, is defined as sustained contact at less than six feet for at least 15 minutes.
On Aug. 27, the CSD’s school board voted 9-0 to play all fall sports except for football but on Sept. 17 the board changed course and voted 8-0 (with one absence) to allow football to play.
The football team lost to Wyomissing 44-0 in its opener on Friday night.
