PW clinches outright SOL Liberty title

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 12, ABINGTON 1» Plymouth Whitemarsh scored five times in a seven-minute span at the end of the first quarter as the Colonials cruised Wednesday to clinch the outright SOL Liberty Division title.

Ava Borkowski finished with four goals while Kaleigh Missimer had three goals and three assists for PW (9-0-0, 9-0-0 division), which has now won an outright SOL conference or division championsh­ip for an eighth consecutiv­e season.

Regan Gehman added two goals, Hailey Copestick collected a goal and two assists and Molly Lynch recorded a pair of assists for the Colonials, who led 8-0 at halftime. Alexa DeLucca and Jules Tulio both scored a goal while Sarah Trask three saves.

NORTH PENN

3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 0 » Eleni Kountroubi­s and Erin O’Donnell each had a goal and an assist while Mallory Stowell made saves as North Penn ended Senior Night by claiming its third win in a row.

“Even though we gave up too many penalty corners tonight, I was proud of our corner defensive team (led by Maddie Waldspurge­r and goalie Mallory Stowell) playing tough in the circle and turning away South’s offense,” North Penn coach Shannon McCracken said.

Central Bucks South out-cornered the Knights 14-3 in the SOL Colonial matchup but NP’s defense produced its third shutout of the year.

Kountroubi­s gave North Penn (5-3-0, 5-3-0 division) a 1-0 lead off an O’Donnell assist at 7:16 in the first quarter. O’Donnell made it 2-0 at 13:13 in the third while Kountroubi­s assisted on Bay Detweiler’s goal that put the Knights up three with 4:35 left in the fourth.

Gwen DiPrinzio made two saves for CB South (35-1, 3-5-1).

“I am so proud of this senior class; Megan Albert, Katie Blanch, Ali Hoffman, Eleni Kountroubi­s, Claire Owsiany, Michele Park, Lily Ridgway, Maura Schaeffer, Lindsay Stone, Mallory Stowell, and Maddie Zartman,” McCracken said. “They are an amazing group of student athletes who love the game, work hard, care about each other, are committed to our program, and show heart and hustle on the field. They have faced adversity and the uncertaint­y of this season with grace and maturity and it is admirable.”

DOCK MENNONITE 6, BRISTOL 0 » Sarah Curry finished with two goals as Dock Mennonite scored twice in both the first and second quarters to staying undefeated.

Ainsley Moyer and Celeste Derstine each collected a goal and an assist for the Pioneers (8-0-0, 8-0-0 BAL).

“We started off slow but strong second quarter — we are playing some great team hockey,” Dock coach Michelle Waldspurge­r said.

Curry opened scoring at 3:10 in the first quarter while Erin Miles’ goal assisted by Kylie Godshall with 1:36 left in the quarter made it 2-0.

In the second quarter, Curry pushed the lead to three at 12:25 while Moyer struck on a corner at 9:29 with Derstine getting the assist to put Dock up 4-0 at halftime.

Derstine scored at 4:10 in the third off a Moyer assist. In the fourth, Olivia Zaskoda found the back of the net on a corner with 6:04 remaining.

Bristol goalkeeper Camryn Guy made 10 saves.

JENKINTOWN 6, DELCO CHRISTIAN 0 » Kaelin DiMaria recorded a hat trick while Carly Mulvaney collected a pair of assists as Jenkintown earned a shutout BAL win.

Adelyn Smith finished with a goal and an assist for the Drakes. Rose McCafferty and Julia Brandt each scored a goal. while Sarah Cummings had an assist.

OWENJ.ROBERTS2,METHACTON 1 » Payton Hansen and Rylee Laloup tallied goals as the Wildcats handed the Warriors their first loss of the season in Wednesday’s PAC win.

Reilley Hagarty (1) and Amy Erb (3) combined for four saves to protect the Wildcats’ lead. Jess Stravinsky scored for Methacton, while Gabby DiPrinzio made four saves.

SPRING-FORD 1, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 1 » After a scoreless first half, second-half goals by Rams’ Alexa Collins and PV’s Cristina Dougherty helped the two teams finish in a PAC draw Wednesday.

Collins scored on a reverse shot with 11:52 in the third period to put SpringFord up 1-0. Dougherty, assisted by Anna Dawson, tied the game on a corner with 3:49 to go in the fourth period. Ashley Derrick made five saves for PV.

SPRING-FORD 7, OWEN J. ROBERTS 0 » The Rams won Wednesday’s PAC meet with the Wildcats, and a rematch of the league single tournament’s finalists.

Mia Matriccino, winner over OJ R’s A l l ison Root this past weekend, repeated their result from that previous meeting with a 6-0, 6-4 win. Singles play between the teams was highlighte­d by Spring-Ford’s Isabel Mejia and Cady Krause winning their respective secondand third-singles contests by 6-0, 6-0 scores. PERKIOMEN VALLEY 7, POTTSGROVE 0 » The Vikings dropped just seven games in singles play on the way to a sweep of the Falcons Wednesday.

Gracie Strohecker had PV’s best individual showing, a 6-1, 6-0 win at first singles. Pottsgrove’s best performanc­e came from its second-doubles duo of Caroline Schwartz and Elizabeth Snavely, which extended its duel with the Vikes’ Smiki Sastrusaly­a/Rachel Koenig tandem to three sets.

FAITH CHRISTIAN 1, DOCK MENNONITE0» The Pioneers dropped a BAL matchup against FCA Wednesday evening.

Dock generated plenty of offensive pressure on Senior Night — totaling 26 shots on goal — but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Faith put three shots on goal and netted the gamewinner in the 66th minute.

Boys golf

SPRING-FORD 197, OWEN J. ROBERTS 199 » In a highlycont­ested PAC match Wednesday, the Rams edged the Wildcats at Turtle Creek Golf Club.

Garrett Wible was low scorer with a 37, one stroke over par and one better than teammate Luke Watson and OJR’s Stefania Fedun and Jared Berish. A one-stroke edge between the teams’ next three scorers proved part of the difference in the team outcome, which left Spring-Ford finishing the season at 7-1.

Girls volleyball

SPRING-FORD 3, METHACTON1» In a close PAC match Wednesday, the Rams prevailed over the Warriors. Set scores were 27-25, 2517, 20-25 and 25-22.

Spring-Ford’s statistica­l standouts were led by the 14-kill efforts of Clarke Gilmore and Sara Fritzinger. Others were Ally Plitnick (23 assists), Anoushka Patel (19 assists, 10 digs), Maddie Lebiedzins­ki (27 digs, three assists) and Kylie Michal (nine blocks, four kills).

Methacton’s stars were Mandy Baldwin (11 kills, five aces, 14 digs), Meghan Haftl (31 assists, one ace, 12 digs

Alyssa Reiner led Souderton with 10 digs, three kills and one ace. Nikki Hamilton added four assists, one ace and one dig and Isabelle Feliciani had two aces and one dig.

“We were able to gain momentum and play very efficient volleyball in set 1,” Souderton coach Cori Watson said, “but ultimately couldn’t sustain that efficiency in sets 2 and 3. We are placing our focus on making the most of our practice time before our next match against CB West.”

QUAKERTOWN 3, DOCK MENNONITE 0 » A short-handed Pioneers team lost to the Panthers in three sets Wednesday 25-14, 25-10, 25-13.

The Pioneers excelled on defense, posting 41 digs. Sophia Mercure made her varsity debut and had two kills and two aces.

“Just when the girls were settling into a working, determined rotation they are faced with challenges to losing players due to injury and sickness,” Dock coach Taylor McKenney said. “This was the first match with a completely different lineup and the girls adapted extremely well. I am so proud of the hard work and open minds they had when it came to tonight’s match.
