Let Light fill your world

Does your faith allow you to see the world in a newer light? Hmm … Light is a consistent and vital aspect of all faith traditions. It references the presence of Spirit, the process of opening up and the onset of new revelations. Spiritual light also provides a counterpoint to the darkness of despair and the shadows of separation.

Artists also use the play of light in their works

— to create textures, to soften our gaze, to create tensions and to emphasize the stories they tell through words, colors or carvings. And so, dear readers, as Spiritual Artists, allow me to ask the question again — does your faith allow you to see the world in a new Light? I hope so! For in this troubled and shaded landscape, spiritual artistry and the Light it shines forth are deeply needed.

Can we, like Monet, allow our faith to open us up to the many points of color and light that surround us? Can we bring the inspiration, joy and whimsy of Chagall (one of my personal favorites!) into the world through our spiritual practices? Is it possible that the connection to the earth can be forged through the same light of humility and simplicity seen in the artistry of St. Francis? Can our light blanket the earth as we walk in the ways of the Buddha and Lao Tzu? Artists changed the world through their creations. I believe that Spiritual Artists can do the same.

When we, as Spiritual Artists, give voice to the Light, we are in alignment with the artists of the Masterpieces. We are connected to those, throughout the ages, whose creations always centered upon the Light and who gave us new perspectives on the world because of it. The best art and the most profound faith push the boundaries. We don’t color inside the lines!

It is autumn. The sunsets and sunrises are more brilliant; the shadows have more depth and the pathways of light in the forests are carved more dramatically. The new light challenges our eyes and delights our hearts; it opens our spirits and engages our imaginations. At this most wondrous shadowing time of year perhaps, by spending time in the shifting palates of Light, guided by faith, we will open up to a more inclusive landscape in the vibrant spiritual colors of an expanded consciousness.
