West’s Jezzeny takes 8th in state

PIAA CHAMPIONSH­IPS » CB West’s Milo Jezzeny finished tied for 8th in the state, shooting a 2-over-73 as the top local finisher at Heritage Hills on Tuesday. Holy Ghost’s Calen Sandersen took home the title with a 4-under-67. Other locals who had good days were PW’s Dylan Goonerate (74), Wissahicko­n’s Christian Matt (76), Souderton’s Stephen Butler (77) and La Salle’s Kevin Lafond (82).

PJP II 193, UPPER MERION 239 » PJP defeated Upper Merion Monday at Landis Creek Golf Course behind an even-par 36 from Paul Brady and a 1-over-37 from Aidan Canning. Upper Merion was paced by a 44 from Audrey Schuebel and a 46 from Jack Rogers.

DOCK4,DEVONPREP0» Dock started all 9 seniors and it didn’t take long for them to make an impact on Senior Night Monday.

Jacob Shreiner scored a header from a corner kick from Aiden Kelly just 2 minutes into the game.

Then 7 minutes later another corner kick from Kelly found the head of Shreiner again, who headed the ball back across the box to JD Bennet for the finish.

Jake Gerber and Nathan Smeland ran the outside mids for Dock (6-3, 5-1) creating many scoring opportunit­ies from the flanks.

Mahomad Camara put pressure up top on the back line of Devon Prep. Aiden Kelly and Logan Gillespie controlled the midfield and distribute­d the ball well for Dock.

Senior keeper Reynaldo Ramos kept the shutout in place with a few timely saves and 1 on 1 breakaway attempts by Devon Prep.

In the second half, Dock continued to put the pressure on with a number of deep crosses into the box. Jesse Detweiler was able to serve a ball behind the back line of Devon Prep that found the head of Zach Frederick.

The final goal of the game came on a crossed ball that found the foot of Ben Lare. Dock continued to play as a team and control the ball for a good portion of the game.

GMA 1, ST. BASIL ACADEMY 0 » Hailey Morris scored the lone goal of the game off an assist from Cassidy Palazzo on Monday in AACA action. Grace Galbreath made four saves in net for the Monarchs.

METHACTON 1, BOYERTOWN 1» Boyertown opened the scoring in the 22nd minute on a breakaway by Madison Springman. Methacton equalized in the 68th minute with a goal by senior Julia McCann, assisted by freshman Aubrey Beaugard. Methacton is now 2-3-2 in the PAC.

Kylie Godshall provided the offense. Casey Harper made one save in net for Dock, which will be at Plumstead Christian on Wednesday.

CB EAST 2, NORTH PENN 1 » It was an evenly-matched game with Phia Mannino tally ing the game-winner for East. Eleni Kountroubi­s scored the lone goal for NP off a feed from Erin O’Donnell. Mallory Stowell made 9 saves in net for North Penn (5-4), which hosts Souderton on Thursday.

“I am so proud of the growth of our team since the last time we saw CB East and suffered a 4-0 loss at their field,” said NP head coach Shannon McCracken. “From that game forward, our team has grown stronger and put in the hard work to get better each day. The end result of the game could have gone either way and our team played with heart and hustle and fought to the final whistle.”
