The 2020 Pennsylvania High School Field Hockey Coaches Association All-State teams were announced this week and, after a great season in The Reporter/ Times Herald/Montgomery Media area, local schools were wellrepresented.

Suburban One League Liberty Division champion Plymouth Whitemarsh landed four players on the Class-3A All-State teams. Ava Borkowski and Kaleigh Missimer were first team selections while Hailey Copestick and Molly Lynch earned second-team honors. Borkowski posted 31 goals and three assists while Missimer had 17 goals and 15 assists. Copestick added six goals and seven assists and Lynch five goals and five assists.

Wissahickon and Methacton each landed three players on the 3A All-State teams.

Aiden Drabick and Alli Wood earned first team honors for the Trojans while Brynne Miller was an honorable mention. Drabick had 16 goals and 12 assists this year while Wood posted a .900 save percentage.

“It’s a great honor to be recognized as one of the best in the entire state,” Wissahickon coach Lucy Gil said, “especially Pennsylvania, where field hockey has such a large presence. All three girls

have worked so hard this year, and they certainly deserve it.”

Alexa Kratz, Elise DeWan and Kristen Riddell earned spots from the Warriors. Kratz stuffed the state sheet this season with nine goals, five assists and two defensive saves to earn a first team spot. DeWan landed on the second team after scoring five goals, dishing out four assists and making five defensive saves. Riddell had two assists this year, but did much more as a captain that won’t show on a stat sheet.

North Penn landed two girls on the 3A All-State teams — first-teamer Maddie Waldspurger and honorable mention Eleni Kountroubis. Waldspurger had one goal and one defensive save this year while serving as the Knights’ f lier on defensive corners. Her vision and passing helped make the North Penn offense go. Kountroubis had five goals and three assists.

“I was very excited and proud to see Maddie Waldspurger and Eleni Kountroubis be honored by the PHSFHCA,” North Penn coach Shannon McCracken said. “I consider Maddie to be the quarterback of our team. She is our most consistent player and is the glue for our offense and defense. Maddie was tasked this season with marking the biggest threats on the opposing teams and did an excellent job of defending these players. She is an excellent player and it was awesome to have her receive first team recognition. Eleni was a leader on the offensive line this season and is a workhorse on the field. She runs down the ball and her opponents, plays with a lot of hustle, and has excellent speed. I was happy for her that she was recognized in her senior year on the honorable mention team.”

Also from the SOL Colonial Division, CB West’s Julia Bunch and Pennridge’s Emily Amsden were 3A first and second team selections, respectively.

In Class-2A, Gw ynedd Mercy Academy landed three g irls on the All-State teams — Alaina McVeigh on the first team, Sammy Saxon on the second team and Sydney Mandato an honorable mention. McVeigh scored 34 goa ls and dished out 14 assists in 11 games this fall.

Mount St. Joseph Academy seniors Megan Ma

ransky and Meghan McGinley were both 2A first team selections. Maransky led the Magic in scoring with 15 goals and added nine assists and two defensive saves. McGinley scored nine goals and the midfielder made just as big of an impact on the defensive end.

Upper Dublin also had two players earn 2A spots — Mikayla DeMichele on the second team and Peyton Kullman an honorable mention. DeMichele was the Cardinals team MVP and scored two goals to go along with two assists. Kullman had two goals and four assists this fall.

In Class-A, Dock Mennonite Academy landed three girls on the AllState teams. Kylie Godshall, a four-year starter with 24 career goals and 15 career assists, earned a first team spot. Olivia Yetter, a four-year starter with three goals and one assist this season, made second team. Celeste Derstine, who posted 11 goals and 11 assists in 2020, was an honorable mention.

Springfield-Montco had two girls earn Class-A second team spots — Anya Kochanowicz and Kate Wojeck.
