McSorley named to Penn State Harrisburg Baseball’s All-Decade Team
Ryan McSorley (Lansdale/ Lansdale Catholic) was named to Penn State Harrisburg baseball’s All-Decade team at shortstop. McSorley is currently ranked fourth in program history in runs scored (104) and on-base percentage (.430), fifth in doubles (21), sixth in hits (119) and second in hit-by-pitches (35).
As a junior in 2020, McSorley tied the PSU Harrisburg game record for hits in a game with five in a 15-7 win over Franklin & Marshall on Feb. 22, 2020. He had a .413 batting percentage and a .525 on-base percentage in 12 games in 2020 before the rest of the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
• RIDER MEN’S BASKETBALL’S ALLEN POWELL (PHILADELPHIA/LA SALLE) » Powell scored a careerhigh 20 points while Jaelen McGlone (Cheltenham/Cheltenham) had a season-best 13 points as the Broncs fell to Marist 76-67 last Saturday.
Powell had 18 points in the second half, finished 3-for-6 from beyond the 3-points arc and also had three rebounds, a block and
a steal. McGlone, who collected 10 of his points after halftime, was 3-of-7 from three, grabbed three rebounds and also had an assist.
Last Friday in Rider’s 7664 victory over Marist, Powell posted 13 points, four assists, two blocks and a steal with McGlone going for three points, two assists, a rebound and a steal.
• LIZZIE OLEARY (WILLOW GROVE/ABINGTON) » Oleary had eight points and four rebounds for the Delaware women’s basketball team Sunday in its 79-67 win over UNCW.
In the Blue Hens’ 73-66 victory over UNCW last Saturday, Oleary collected three points, two rebounds and a steal.
• VILLANOVA MEN’S BASKETBALL’S COLLIN GILLESPIE (HUNTINGDON VALLEY/ARCHBISHOP WOOD » Gillespie finished with 15 points — tied for the teamhigh — a game-best six assists and five rebounds as the Wildcats used a strong second half to beat Providence 71-56 last Saturday.
Gillespie was 3-for-6 on 3-pointers, hitting one to beat the halftime buzzer to pull ‘Nova within 27-24. The Wildcats proceeded to outscore the Friars 47-29 in the last 20 minutes.
Eric Dixon (Willow Grove/Abington) added three points and a rebound for Villanova, which improved to 10-1 overall (5-0 Big East).
Last Tuesday, Gillespie scored a team-high 22 points as ‘Nova returned to play after a 27-day COVID-19 pause and earned 76-74 win over Seton Hall. • CLIFTON MOORE (AMBLER/HATBORO-HORSHAM) » Moore chipped in two points and a rebounds for the Explorers (7-8, 4-4 conference), who won their second straight.
• SEAN YODER (DUBLIN/PENNRIDGE) » Yoder had 11 points, five rebounds and a steal as the Navy men’s basketball team fell in overtime to Army 87-78.
• HOLY CROSS MEN’S BASKETBALL’S MATT FAW (KING OF
PRUSSIA/UPPER MERION) » Faw had 14 points, six rebounds and a block as the Crusaders fell to Lehigh 7572 last Saturday. A day later, Faw tallied nine points, six rebounds, three blocks and two steals in an 82-74 loss to Lehigh.
• QUINNIPIAC MEN’S BASKETBALL’S SETH PINKNEY
(WARMINSTER/ARCHBISHOP WOOD) » Pinkney went a perfect 5-for-5 from the field in scoring 15 points and also collected eight rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal last Saturday in a 78-69 win over Niagara.
Last Friday in the Bobcats’ 59-56 loss to Niagara, Pinkney posted nine points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

(DOYLESTOWN/GWYNEDD MERCY) » Szekely had a pair of two-four finishes for the Penn State women’s swim team in their tri-meet with Iowa and Northwestern last Friday and Saturday.
The Nittany Lions defeated Iowa 153-146 but lost to Northwestern 242-58.
Szekely, a senior, took second on the 200-yard back (1:59.82) and fourth in the 400-yard individual medley (4:22.00. She also swam on PSU’s 200-yard medley relay that placed third (1:41.09).
• LA SALLE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL’S MOLLY MASCIANTONIO (MORTON/ARCHBISHOP CARROLL) » Masciantonio finished with 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals last Friday in the Explorers’ 690-45 win over George Washington.
Sunday, Masciantonio had six points, a rebound and a steal while Jaye Haynes (Fort Washington/ Germantown Academy) had two points and two assists in La Salle’s 82-74 victory over George Mason. Rachel Balzer (Doylestown/ Germantown Academy) collected nine points and three rebounds for George Mason.
• LIBERTY WOMEN’S SWIMMING’S MADDIE FREECE
(LANSDALE/NORTH PENN) » Freece took first place in 3-meter diving with a score of 295.80 in the Flames’ 142-110 win over Campbell last Saturday. Freece’s score would have been second-best in program history but the event was scored as an exhibition and did not count for official records.
• MADDIE VIZZA (SOUTHAMPTON/GERMANTOWN ACADEMY) » Vizza had five points and two rebounds while Izzy Larsen (Hatfield/Archbishop Wood) collected two points, a rebound and an assist in the Northeastern women’s basketball team’s 62-50 win over Manhattan last Tuesday.
