Wawa now offering burgers at all stores
Chain is giving away ‘burgers for a year’
Wawa is making a hamburger and fries available chain wide at 920 convenience store locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C. The offering follows months of market testing at locations within the chain’s geographic footprint.
“Wawa is excited to launch our new dinner platform in 2021 with the burger becoming the first dinner item to roll out across all stores,” Mike Sherlock, Wawa chief product marketing officer, said in a press release. “Burger festivities are designed to give customers a taste of the new product and drive excitement for a new line of fresh, quality and convenient options at dinner time.”
The burgers launched earlier this week, and to mark the milestone, Wawa is offering a “Burgers for a Year” social media contest. Customers can enter to win a year’s supply of Wawa burgers by completing an online form at: https://www.wawa.com/burgersfor-a-year.
The timeline for entering the contest is tight, however — the entry period ends on Friday, Feb. 19 at Noon. A company spokeswoman said there are no plans to extend the deadline due to Thursday’s winter weather across the region.
Customers can also tune in to participating radio stations to win “I Burger Wawa” prize packs, including limited-edition “I Burger Wawa,” T-shirts and $25 gift cards to experience the new burger.
In addition, a custom Wawa burger-mobile will make appearances at Wawa’s upcoming grand openings. The first burger mobile stop will take place on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 9 a.m. at a new Wawa located at 308 Highway 35, Eatontown, N.J.
Wawa’s all-natural Angus burger is customizable with a choice of cheese, fresh toppings, sauce and bacon. The burger has already become a customer favorite — the top-selling item at Wawa’s new drive thru location in Falls Township, Bucks County.
Customers can order the burger in-store via touch screen, delivery service using third-party partners Door Dash, Grub Hub, Postmates and Uber Eats, and through curbside service starting at 4 p.m. daily.
Wawa began piloting the hamburgers in test locations last February, along with several other dinner items, expanding the testing throughout the year. Additional items being tested at that time included pasta and Rotisserie chicken.
There was no information available Thursday about what additional dinner items are planned.
Wawa also rolled out Heat and Eat meals in 2020 — prepared meals customers can pick up in the store without placing an order.
