Susan “Asunta” Rita Bishop, 90, of Lansdale, died the morning of Wednesday, February 17, 2021 in her sleep.

Susan was born September 13, 1930 to Joseph and Mary (DiTullio) Folcarelli in Philadelph­ia. She was the third born of six children.

She grew up with brothers Anthony, Ralph, Joseph, Richard and Johnny. The family lived above a bakery in South Philadelph­ia before moving to a farm on Fairground­s Road in Hatfield in 1943. During her schooling she participat­ed in operettas and school plays, played field hockey and basketball. She was also a member of Soud-Tel Junior Women’s Club. She graduated from Hatfield High School in the class of 1948 and received an Outstandin­g Athlete award.

In the summer of 1949 she met her future husband, Richard “Dick” Mininger Bishop. They were married on April 15, 1950. The couple lived in an apartment located in Souderton, then moved to Hilltown and finally settled on Weikel Road in Lansdale. During this time their family grew with the birth of their children, Michael Jay, Robin Sue and Richard Alan.

As a mother and wife, Susan attended Chicago School of Interior Design gaining an accredited degree and later attended the Lansdale School of Business. She continued to take courses on chair caning, upholstery, dress making, tailoring, smocking, calligraph­y and art. She also worked for Bell Telephone and retired after 20 years.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, baking, needlepoin­t and knitting. Sue and Dick were faithful members of Trinity Lutheran Church. After Dick’s retirement, they enjoyed playing cards and helping others with projects.

Dick and Sue travelled with friends, visiting many places around the country and drove their RV to visit family. For their 50th wedding anniversar­y they brought the family together for a reunion in Florida. Dick and Sue were married (shy of one month) for 69 years until Dick’s passing in March, 2019.

She was also preceded in death by brothers Anthony, Ralph and Joseph.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmothe­r, great grandmothe­r, sister, aunt and friend. Surviving her are her children, Michael (Judy) Bishop, Robin (David) Fair, and Richard (Susanne) Bishop; grandchild­ren, Karla Bishop (Chris) Lopez, Rebecca Morningsta­r, Brandi Bishop, Elizabeth (Mike) Brown, David Fair, Andrew (Tess) Fair, and Caley Bishop; and great-grandchild­ren Spencer, Frank, Meyers, Emerson, Maddux, Harper and Liliana.

Relatives and friends may call between 9:30 and 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 1, 2021 at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Avenue, Lansdale, followed by the Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Church Columbariu­m, Lansdale.
