Souderton grad earns rookie honors

Souderton grad Reese earns MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year honors for DeSales

DeSales freshman Mikaela Reese (Souderton) was named the MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year.

She averaged 10.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game while shooting 44.3 percent from the field.

Reese also earned a spot on the second team All-MAC Freedom. She is the only freshman to earn a spot on the first or second team.

Reese’s top game of the year came on March 18 against Delaware Valley. She set season-highs with 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks while grabbing three steals in 29 minutes of the 66-34 win.

VILLANOVA’S COLLIN GILLESPIE (ARCHBISHOP WOOD) >> Gillespie earned second team Senior CLASS All-American honors.

CLASS is an acronym for Celebratin­g Loyalty and Achievemen­t for Staying in School. The honorees are recognized for using their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their community.

Gillespie, who was one of three players named Big East Player of the Year this season, averaged 14 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists for the Wildcats.

Softball

KUTZTOWN FRESHMAN HANNAH REIMEL (WILLIAM TENNENT) >> Reimel went 4-for-4 with a triple, 4 RBI and three runs in an 11-3 win over Mansfield on Saturday. Freshman Bean Hughes (Upper Moreland) had two hits and an RBI in doublehead­er sweep of Mansfield on Saturday.

Bloomsburg senior Nicolette Ray (Abington) had two hits, two runs and an RBI in a Saturday split with East Stroudsbur­g.

Baseball

MONMOUTH’S DANNY LONG (PENNRIDGE) >> Long improved to 2-0 Saturday when he threw five innings and allowed one run in a 13-1 win over Siena. The fifth year struck out three batters to no walks while allowing six hits as the Hawks extended their win streak to 11 games.

Kutztown’s Gavin Moretski (La Salle College High School) picked up the pitching win with 5.1 innings in a 4-3 Game 2 win of a doublehead­er with Mansfield Saturday. In Game 1, Moretski hit a solo home run in a 7-2 win. Antonio Rossillo (Archbishop Wood) had three hits and scored three runs in the doublehead­er. Dom Proietto (Norristown) went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI in Game 1

West Chester’s Justin Horn (Upper Dublin) went 3-for-4 with three RBI in a 12-4 loss to Shepherd in Game 2 of a doublehead­er on Saturday. Luke Cantwell (Archbishop Wood) went 2-for-4 with three RBI in Game 1 and 2-for-3 with a run and RBI in Game 2.

Virginia’s Alex Tappen (Wissahicko­n) went 2-for-3 with two runs in the Cavaliers 11-4 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday. Tappen went 2-for-2 with two runs after entering as a pinch hitter in Friday’s 8-2 win and 1-for-1 with two RBI in Thursday’s 6-5 loss.

La Salle’s Colin Kennedy (Hatboro-Horsham) threw a scoreless inning with three strikeouts in Friday’s Game 1 win over Penn in a doublehead­er. He pitched three scoreless innings with two strikeouts in Saturday’s Game 2 loss to the Quakers in a doublehead­er.

Men’s lacrosse

DUKE GRADUATE STUDENT

MICHAEL SOWERS (UPPER DUBLIN) >> Sowers scored a goal in the No. 1 Blue Devils 12-11 overtime win over No. 2 North Carolina on Thursday. Sowers has 22 goals and a team-high 29 assists this season and leads team with 51 total points.

Women’s lacrosse

FLORIDA SOPHOMORE

BECKY BROWNDORF (UPPER DUBLIN) >> Browndorf had three ground balls and two caused turnovers in the Gators 19-7 win over East Carolina on Saturday.

St. Joe’s Sam McGee (Abington) had a hat trick in the Hawks 12-10 win over Duquesne on Saturday. Sophia Kolkka (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had a ground ball, caused turnover and draw control win for St. Joe’s.

Women’s soccer

DUKE JUNIOR MAC PLUCK (GERMANTOWN ACADEMY) >> Pluck started and registered a shot in the Blue Devils 1-0 win at NC State.

UMBC senior Erin Stevenson (Pennridge) started and had a shot in a 4-0 loss to UMass Lowell on Saturday.
