Knights edge West in Colonial opener
Evin Sullivan’s RBI sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth inning broke a 6-6 tie and the North Penn baseball team held on to edge visiting Central Bucks West 7-6 in the SOL Colonial Division opener for both teams Wednesday.
Sullivan went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored for the Knights (3-0, 1-0 division). Jeffrey Sabater was 2-for-2 with two run scored while Steven Corrado scored twice.
Eric Hamilton earned the win, throwing four scoreless inning in relief. He allowed three hits, did not walk a batter and struck out three.
Maxwell Grill was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for CB West (0-3, 0-1). James Carbone finished 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored, Andrew Kohl went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored and Mike Boyle scored a pair of runs.
ABINGTON 11, UPPER DUBLIN 7 » Kyle Rizzo’s two-RBI single gave Upper Dublin a 7-6 lead in the top of the sixth but Abington answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning — the last two on Anthony Ehly’s double — as the Ghosts won the SOL Liberty Division matchup.
Henry Tyler finished 2-for-3 with two run scored for the Ghosts (1-2, 1-0) while Ehly and Alex Dardaris both collected two RBIs.
Upper Dublin’s Tristan Cairnes went 2-for-4 with a home run — a solo shot in the first — double, two RBIs and a run scored. Rizzo was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored while Leo Soriano scored twice for the Cardinals (0-3, 0-1).
PW 6, QUAKERTOWN 1 >> Plymouth Whitemarsh’s Joe Jaconski went 2-for-3 with a double triple, two walks, two RBIs and three runs scored as the Colonials claimed an SOL Liberty win.
Quakertown scored a run in the top of the sixth
to pull within 3-1 but PW (20, 1-0) responded by plating three runs in the bottom of the frame.
The Colonials’ Jack Hildebrand went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Joe Rauscher threw five innings in picking up the win, giving up one unearned run one hit, walked five and posted seven strikeouts. HATBORO-HORSHAM 6, WISSAHICKON 2 >> Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Hatboro-Horsham took the lead with two runs than added two more in the sixth ton win their SOL Liberty opener.
Cole Fisher was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Hatters (2-2, 1-0) while Noah Gremo had two RBI. HH starting pitcher Jimmy Tooley got the win, allowing two runs — both unearned — on one hit in six innings. He walked one, hit two batters
and struck out four.
Softball
UPPER DUBLIN 7, ABINGTON 6 >> Abington grabbed a 6-2 lead by scoring four runs in the top of the sixth but Upper Dublin rallied with five runs in the bottom of the inning — Liz Baginski bringing home the goahead run with a pinch-hit RBI single as the Cardinals won their season opener.
Ally McDaid was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two run scored for UD (1-0, 1-0 SOL Liberty) while Gretchen Wolpert hit a solo home run in the third. Chloe Foster finished 2-for-3 and Lauren Carboni went 2-for-4.
Leanna Schenk was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Ghosts (12, 0-1 SOL Liberty). Annie Sokolski went 2-for-4 with a double and scored two runs.
