Here are some events planned for this weekend throughout the region:

• Fathom Events marks Mother’s Day with a 30th anniversar­y screenings of “Fried Green Tomatoes” in select area theaters, as part of the TCM Big Screen Classics series. The screenings include exclusive insights from Turner Classic Movies’ Ben Mankiewicz. In addition to Sunday’s screening, the film will be shown next Wednesday and Thursday. Academy Award winners Kathy Bates and Jessica Tandy star with Mary Stuart Masterson and Mary-Louise Parker in this inspiring drama adapted from Fannie Flagg’s best-selling novel. When an unhappy housewife (Bates) befriends a lady in a nursing home (Tandy), she hears a remarkable tale of laughter, devotion and a special friendship that defies all obstacles. • After being sidelined for a year by the pandemic, minor league baseball has returned to FirstEnerg­y Stadium, Reading, where the Reading Fightin Phils are hosting the

Erie SeaWolves for their first homestand of the 2021season. Games are scheduled for today and Friday at 7:05 p.m., Saturday at 6:45 p.m. and Sunday at 2:15 p.m. The Mascot Band will perform a pregame concert on Saturday, and Sunday’s pregame Community Music Showcase will feature the Bishop Shanahan High School Jazz Band. The Kennett Flash Rooftop Series

presents Stephen Kellogg today at 7 p.m. and Jeffrey Gaines on Saturday at 7 p.m. atop the Kennett Square Parking Garage, 100 E. Linden St. All rooftop concerts are rain or shine and bring-yourown-chair. No outside food or drinks are permitted.

Royersford, presents Joe Matarese and his one-man show “Remember When” on Friday at 7 p.m. and Michael Kosta on Saturday at 7p.m. Matarese will revisit the ’80s and early ’90s, a time before cellphones and computers, when going clubbing seven nights a week seemed really important. The GoggleWork­s Center for the Arts,

Reading, presents seminal works from Wharton Esherick and other world-renowned woodworker­s in an exhibition titled “Following Esherick,” running Friday through June 27 in the Irvin and Lois E. Cohen Gallery. The exhibit, presented in partnershi­p with the historic Wharton Esherick Museum, details the eccentric life and groundbrea­king works

of the famed mid-century studio woodworker. According to the Wharton Esherick Museum, Esherick (1887–1970) was an artistic polymath whose significan­t contributi­ons to American art, ranging from works on paper to sculpture, can be found in major museum collection­s across the country. Perhaps best known for his groundbrea­king sculptural furniture, Esherick is widely regarded as the grandfathe­r of the American Studio Furniture movement and one of the foundation­al figures of contempora­ry craft and design. • The Philadelph­ia Orchestra presents a Digital Stage concert, “Fire, Hope and Truth,” today at 8 p.m., and then streaming on demand through next Thursday. The performanc­e echoes the words of James Baldwin (“The Fire Next Time”), Langston Hughes (“Hope”) and Maya Angelou (“We Saw Beyond Our Seeming”), with the compelling vocals of bass-baritone opera singer and activist Davóne Tines. The program includes “You Want the Truth, But You Don’t Want To Know” from Anthony Davis’s opera “X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X,” as well as “Vigil,” both a work of art and a call to action cowritten by Igée Dieudonné and Tines, dedicated to the memory of Breonna Taylor, plus John Adams’ “Shake the Heavens” and Mozart’s Symphony No. 25.
