5 candidates survive primary for 4 seats

In the Souderton Area School Board election, unofficial vote totals indicate all five candidates in the primary elections will move on to the November election. Four seats are up for election.

The five candidates, who each cross-filed, are William J. Brong, Janet Flisak, Andrew D. Landis, Stephen Nelson and Scott P. Swindells.

Montgomery County vote totals Wednesday indicated Swindells, Flisak, Landis and Nelson were the top four vote-getters in the Democratic primary election, moving on to the November election on that ballot. Total votes showed Swindells with 2,398 votes, followed by Flisak with 1,357, Landis with 1,087, and Nelson with 1,047, and 51 write-in votes were cast.

Landis, Nelson, Flisak and Brong were the top four vote-getters on the Republican side, moving on to the November election on that ballot. Of the mail-in and in-person votes counted as of 8 a.m Wednesday. Landis had received 4,822, then Nelson with 4,702, Flisak with 4,577 and Brong with 4,444, followed by Swindells with 1,334 and 35 write-ins.

Brong, Flisak and Nelson are incumbents. They and Landis campaigned as the Keep Soudy Strong team. At least two of the four are now essentiall­y guaranteed to win seats, setting up a contest between Swindells, who totaled 2,398 Democratic votes and 1,334 from Republican voters for 3,732 total, and Brong, who secured 4,444 Republican votes and 962 on the Democratic ballot for 5,406 total.

Combined vote totals between both parties were 5,934 for Flisak, 5,909 for Landis and 5,749 for Nelson.
