Wawa Morgantown grand opening will include COVID vaccinations
“As new stores open throughout the year, we will continue to bring not just a new Wawa to the community but a commitment to safety and growth. We look forward to meeting all our new friends and neighbors in the Morgantown community.” — Chris Gheysens, president and CEO, Wawa
MORGANTOWN >> Wawa is opening another new store this week — the fifth in Pennsylvania this year — in Morgantown. The new store, 2837 W. Main St., opens to the public at 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 20. It is Morgantown’s first Wawa.
As part of the grand opening, the convenience chain is partnering with Rite Aid to conduct a vaccine clinic from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The J&J vaccine will be available for 100 individuals, 18 and older. No fees or pre-registration is required.
“At Wawa, our core purpose is to go beyond filling orders to fulfill lives, every day, and that has never been stronger than it is now as we embark on a new year full of new growth, new jobs, and an enhancement of the way we deliver the Wawa experience through what we call, ‘Boundless Convenience,’” Chris Gheysens, president and CEO, Wawa, said in a statement.
An outdoor ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, featuring VIP customers, local officials and charity partners. During the grand opening, Wawa will also recognize “everyday heroes” in the Pennsylvania State Police, Caernarvon Fire Company, and Elverson-Honey Brook Area EMS with its signature “Hoagies for Heroes” donated lunch and a $1,000 donation to each department’s charity of choice.
As general manager of the new Morgantown store, Toni Ditonno will lead a team of about 30 full- and part-time store associates. The new store will offer Wawa’s customer favorites, as well as mobile ordering, curbside pickup and delivery options. In addition, the store will feature Wawa’s fresh and convenient food options, including the chain’s new dinner menu offerings.
“As new stores open throughout the year, we will continue to bring not just a new Wawa to the community but a commitment to safety and growth. We look forward to meeting all our new friends and neighbors in the Morgantown community,” Gheysens added.
