Variety Club’s summer camp back in session

Welcomes back more than 130 kids with disabiliti­es to campus for summer fun

WORCESTER >> On Monday, June 21, Variety – the Children’s Charity of the Delaware Valley celebrated its 72nd year of summer camp and welcomed more than 130 children with disabiliti­es back to campus for the summer.

Honored guests, including Montgomery County Commission­er Joe Gale and Manager, External Affairs at PECO & 2021 Golden Heart of Variety Award Recipient, Ed McBride participat­ed in a ribbon-cutting ceremony and joined campers in singing a traditiona­l camp song to kick off the first day of camp and an 8-week long summer camp season.

Variety’s mission is to enrich the lives of children and young adults with disabiliti­es through social, educationa­l and vocational programs that nurture independen­ce and self-confidence, and prepare them for life. It is one of the only organizati­ons in the region that was able to provide onsite programmin­g throughout the pandemic and is thrilled to welcome back hundreds of campers and families this year in a safe and fun-filled atmosphere.

Each year, families eagerly await coming “home” to Variety for a summer full of rich relationsh­ips and engaging activities. Variety summer camps include day camp, overnight camp, extended school year (ESY) and vocational camp.

In addition, Variety’s piloted workforce developmen­t model VarietyWor­ks is making a difference in the lives of the young adults who are receiving valuable job training and independen­t job placement.
