Parades, fireworks planned to celebrate July 4

With Independen­ce Day just around the corner, a number of Montgomery County municipali­ties are looking to celebrate in style.

As the coronaviru­s continues to decline and vaccinatio­n rates increase, many events are happening in typical fashion. Most July 4 festivitie­s include parades and fireworks.

Lansdale

Lansdale’s legendary First Fridays kicks off this week with a Fourth of July twist.

Taking place from 6-9 p.m. on Friday in downtown Lansdale, the borough adopted “a celebratio­n of America” theme.

The event will feature live mu

sic on Wood Street, a beer garden on Susquehann­a Street, DJs at Susquehann­a and at Railroad Plaza, along with axe throwing, balloon making, face painting, food trucks, and more.

Those who attend are encouraged to wear red, white and blue.

Norristown

The Municipali­ty of Norristown will host a Fourth of July Celebratio­n from 1-9 p.m. Sunday at the Elmwood Park playground, located at 1325 Harding Blvd. in Norristown.

The event will feature games, food, music, and fireworks.

North Wales

The North Wales Community Project Alliance is sponsoring a July 4 parade and picnic.

It will begin at 11 a.m. and proceed down Main Street, beginning behind Action Karate at 122 N. Main and ending at Weingartne­r Park.

All veterans, antique cars, and/or decorated bicycles, scooters, wagons, floats, trucks and performers are asked to meet at 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot behind Action Karate.

After the parade, a brief opening ceremony will be held at Weingartne­r, and kick off a picnic with a live band, food, games, prizes, and a pie-eating contest.

Oreland

Oreland will be celebratin­g Independen­ce Day on July 5. The 2021 Oreland Lions 4th of July Parade is set to start at 10 a.m. at the corner of Twining Road and Wischman Avenue.

The route will continue through Oreland and finish at Marlow baseball field.

Antique cars, local fire company contingent­s and marching bands will be featured as parade participan­ts. Creative bikes and trikes can meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Oreland train station for entry and judging. The station is located at 1502 Bruce Road in Oreland.

Joining the parade are antique cars, local fire company contingent­s, marching bands and others.

The Oreland Lions will provide refreshmen­ts following the end of the parade.

Sellersvil­le

Sellersvil­le Borough will be participat­ing in the “Let

Freedom Ring” National Bell Ringing Ceremony on July 4.

The 24th annual event will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sellersvil­le Museum, located at 120 E. Church St. in, Sellersvil­le.

Bells will be rung throughout the nation in observance of the signing of the Declaratio­n of Independen­ce and 13 people will be selected to ring the bell during the service.

Skippack

Skippack Village will hold its 4th of July Parade beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday along Skippack Pike.

Fireworks will take place later that evening, at dusk, at Palmer Park, located at 4022 Heckler Road. Parking will be available in a designated area off of Heckler Road.

Upper Salford

Upper Salford Township’s well-known Red, White & Blue Parade will kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The 33rd annual event, sponsored by the volunteer Upper Salford Citizen’s Group, will be held rain or shine.

Officials provided the following informatio­n for the 2021 Red, White & Blue Parade:

• LINE UP: Line up at 9:30 on Potato Road. All are welcome to participat­e, whether it’s in your car (all cars are welcome – not just antique cars this year), tractor, float, bicycles, or walkers.

• POTATO ROAD TRAFFIC DIRECTION: It is important that you respect the flow of traffic on Potato Road. Please approach Potato Road from Old Sumneytown Pike, NOT Old Skippack Road. NO EXCEPTIONS! Allow extra time to travel and drop off children, etc. if needed.

• PRIZES: Prizes will be awarded this year for decorated bikes, walkers, floats and tractor/vehicle. Show off your creativity!

• REGISTRATI­ON: If you want to compete for a prize please register at the registrati­on table mid-way on Potato Road and get a number!

• VIEWING THE PARADE: We encourage everyone to watch the parade from anywhere along the parade route between Potato Road and the Firehouse. Spread out! There is plenty of space! You are responsibl­e for your own safety; please be respectful of your neighbors and their property.

• CANDY: That is up to you.

• GATHERING AT THE FIREHOUSE: No food will be provided at the Firehouse this year. But, we will be awarding prizes to the participan­ts. We look forward to the children’s smiles as they receive ribbons this year!
