MCCC launches ‘Montco on the Move’ podcast

-

BLUE BELL >> The stories of the people who help make Montgomery County Community College great are as interesting and unique as they are diverse. Now you’ll get a chance to hear all about them.

MCCC has launched the “Montco on the Move” podcast. Join hosts Molly Hafner, director of Marketing, and Jared Brown, assistant dean of Academic Affairs at the Pottstown Campus, as they sit down to talk to the unique members of the MCCC community, and learn about each of their experiences at the College.

“There are so many inspiring stories out there from our Montco students, alumni, faculty and staff, and more than anything, Jared and I want to authentically tap into those stories,” said Hafner. “It is clear that Montco transforms students’ lives—our goal is to try to unpack the details of that transformation in 15-minute interviews in order to show future students that they too can experience the same thing.”

“Sharing the work, accomplishments, initiatives, and most importantly the narratives of our guests is very powerful,” said Brown. “It can be a challenge to highlight all of the exciting parts and aspects of the College. But what better way to highlight some of the accomplishments Montco has achieved thus far than through this podcast? More importantly through this show we have the opportunity to highlight what the Montco family is doing to enhance the student success experience both on campus and within our communities.”

Brown said he hoped to use the podcast to both educate and entertain listening audiences.

“I would like for the audience to feel that the stories or information relate to them in some way,” he said, “and of course laugh a few times during the show too.”

The first episode of “Montco on the Move” features Blessing Osazuwa, a 2020 graduate and music major. She started at Montco uncertain of what she wanted to do in life. Yet Osazuwa not only found her path, at MCCC she forged a path that led her to acceptance into an Ivy League university.

“Montco on the Move” is produced by MCCC Sound Recording and Music Technology (SRT) students under the guidance of David Ivory, director of Sound Recording and Music Technology.

Matthew Porter, senior producer and technical services manager, also produces the show. Porter also helped students produce “MCCC on the Air,” the radio show/podcast and spiritual predecessor to “Montco on the Move.” The show ended after 1,000 episodes last year. “MCCC on the Air” was broadcast weekly on WNPV-AM 1440/98.5 FM radio, which went off the air in April 2020.

“The Montco on the Move podcast will continue what we had always strived to do with ‘MCCC on the Air,’” said Porter, “which was to spotlight the amazing Montco family, while providing the opportunity to give our students the learning experience of producing the program.

“With ‘Montco on the Move,’ I am excited that we can share the fantastic stories of our students, faculty, staff and community,” he continued. “Plus, our SRT students, along with David Ivory, will be producing the podcast, which offers valuable experience and resume building opportunities.”

As for the podcast’s hosts, Porter said he was thrilled to have Hafner and Brown behind a microphone, as they have “natural chemistry” that will “bring new life to the podcast.”

“I love the format and the energy between Molly and Jared,” said Ivory. “This podcast will be a great way for us as a college to connect to the Montco community, as well as our students.”
