Fatal police-involved shooting under investigation
PLYMOUTH >> Montgomery County detectives are investigating an officer-involved shooting during which a man was fatally wounded as police investigated an apparent domestic-related incident at an apartment complex in Plymouth Township.
Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Plymouth Township Police Chief John Myrsiades announced the investigation on Wednesday and said the incident occurred at Plymouth Gardens Apartments in the 1300 block of Fayette Street at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.
According to Steele, officers were initially dispatched to an armed subject call which was soon upgraded to a stabbing.
Arriving officers encountered a man, 22, outside who appeared to be armed with a handgun, according to Steele. A woman also was found outside suffering from multiple stab wounds, according to authorities.
“The male subject did not comply with officer commands and was shot when he pointed the handgun at officers,” Steele wrote in a prepared statement.
Officers immediately rendered aid to the man who was transported by Plymouth Ambulance to Suburban Community Hospital. The man was pronounced dead at 1:34 a.m. Wednesday, according to Steele.
“The woman who was stabbed was identified as the male’s mother and was admitted to a local hospital in stable condition,” Steele wrote in the release.
Authorities did not release the identities of the man, the woman who was stabbed or the police officer involved in the incident.
Per protocol, county detectives investigate all officer-involved shootings. Steele said the investigation is ongoing.
