Lucky Finds

“We were fixing up the store and people were already like, ‘We can’t wait for you to open,’” Melendez said. “So, it’s been a really great welcoming here.”

How Lucky Finds consignment works

Lucky Finds dabbles in just about any type of women’s apparel or fashion accessory you might find at a designer store.

“We carry a little bit of everything,” Melendez said. “We have clothing for younger generations and for older generations. We carry jewelry, nail polish, earrings, wallets, sunglasses — all sorts of stuff.

“And anything that we don’t have, we always like to find out what our customers want us to add to the store so that we are always catering to them.”

While Lucky Finds aims to put customers in an outfit they will love for an affordable price, the store is always

searching for quality product to display, too.

Consignment shops traditionally make deals with sellers who are looking to unload gently-used items in exchange for a cut of the profit.

“What we normally do is have individuals sign a contract, then they bring clothing depending on the season,” Melendez said, noting the items must meet certain quality standards. “The split is 60-40, with 60 going to the store and 40 percent going to the client.

“What doesn’t sell, the customer has a choice to either have their clothing returned to them, or they can donate it to the store — then we donate it to local organizations.”

Sights set on a consignment empire in West Reading

Despite only just moving to The Avenue, Maldonado and Melendez already have designs on branching out and possibly opening a second store in the area.

While Lucky Finds does sell clothing for women of all shapes and sizes, the goal is to eventually launch a consignment concept that caters specifically to plus-size women.

“We’re hoping in the near future, not too far down the road,” Maldonado said. “It will be like a sister store.”

“It could be called Lucky Plus,” Melendez added. “We’re really excited about that.”

For now, they are taking things one day at a time — though, if their first day in West Reading was any indication, the future could be right around the corner.

“We were gonna open the doors at 10 (a.m.), but that didn’t last,” Melendez said. “As soon as the ribbon was cut, everybody just started walking in, which was great.”
