-

Seven members of the Germantown Academy Aquatic Club were named to the 2021 USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Team.

Six of the seven members, including Landon D’Ariano ‘23, Taylor Grimley ‘23, Griffin Henze ‘21, Jack Maketa ‘22, Henry Morrissey ‘22, and Nicole Ranile ‘22 attend GA and swim for the Patriots during the winter season. Alex Hamill ‘22 is a member of GAAC, but attends Malvern Prep.

GAAC, which is led by Jeff Thompson, who is also head coach of GA’s varsity swimming and diving teams, led all teams from the Middle Atlantic in terms of number of student-athletes named to the team.

The requirements to be named to USA Swimming’s Scholastic All-American Team are: Swim a pool time equal to or faster than the 2019 Winter Junior Qualifying Time (September 1, 2020 – August 31, 2021). Applicant also must have completed 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade and maintain a minimum GPA for the year of 3.5.

“This is an outstanding achievement for our student-athletes, their parents, their teachers, their teammates, and their coaches,” said Thompson. “Not only do these student-athletes have great swimming skills, they also have huge academic chops. This is far and away my favorite award given out each year by USA Swimming because you have to be strong in school and in the pool to earn this honor.”

PAC SINGLES » Not surprisingly, the four heavyweights of the PAC advanced to the semis with Spring-Ford’s Mia Matriccino, Methacton’s pair of Hana Nouaime and Alice Laing, followed by Owen J. Roberts’ Allison Root all moving on. After playing 10-game pro-sets the first two rounds, none of the semifinalists dropped a set in the quarters.
