Dock grad Strickland collects hat trick

Kate Strickland (Franconia Township, Pa./Dock Mennonite) scored three goals, and thirdranke­d Millersvil­le improved to 9-0 at home with a 6-0 win over Mercyhurst Friday in field hockey.

Enduring unseasonab­ly warm weather, Millersvil­le still managed to score six goals for the seventh time this season and also posted its sixth shutout. Strickland’s hat trick was her second of the season and boosted her goal total to 10. The Marauders improved to 11-2 overall and 4-2 in PSAC play.

Strickland accounted for each of Millersvil­le’s first three goals.

Penn’s Janae Stewart (Penn

Charter), a North Wales resident, scored the game winner off an assist from Sizzy Lawton (Upper Dublin) in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Dartmouth in women’s soccer. Sara Readinger (Souderton) started in midfield for Penn.

Duke’s Mac Pluck (Germantown Academy) tallied an assist on her team’s second goal in Friday’s 2-0 win over Wake Forest in women’s soccer.

Pluck, a North Wales resident, leads the Blue Devils with six assists.

Fairleigh Dickinson freshman Leighann Kafel (Archbishop Wood) started and played all 90 minutes in Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Bryant and all 108 minutes of Thursday’s win over Wagner in women’s soccer.

The Maple Glen resident has played every minute of all 10 games she has appeared in this season.

Savanna Harrison (Pennridge) assisted Kutztown’s game-winning goal in Saturday’s 2-1 win over East Stroudsbur­g University in women’s soccer.

Campbell Power (Souderton) had four shots on goal in Bloomsburg’s 1-0 win over Mansfield on Saturday in women’s soccer.

Melissa Lyon (Pennridge) had two shots on goal and Casey Touey (Abington) one for Drexel in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Delaware in women’s soccer.

Kate Henesey (Lansdale Catholic) and Lauren Elwell (Wissahicko­n) started for Delaware with

Elwell playing all 110 minutes.

Josh Jones (North Penn) started and played all 90 minutes on defense for Louisville in Saturday’s 2-0 win over UNC in men’s soccer.

The Cardinals notched their sixth shutout, holding the nation’s leader in shots per game at 18.25 to just nine.

Nasir Peoples (Archbishop Wood) had a teamhigh 11 tackles for Virginia Tech in Saturday’s 28-7 loss to Pitt.

Ursinus safety Ryan DiVergilis (Wood) had the game-sealing intercepti­on in Saturday’s 18-14 win over McDaniel.

DeVergilis also had five tackles.

Desales’ Allie Trick (Souderton) was named the MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week for women’s soccer after recording six points on two goals and two assistrs in a 5-1 win over King’s. Trick scored two goals on just three shots.

North Penn’s Nyfease West (North Penn) had eight carries for 40 yards in a 44-0 win over Lock Haven on Saturday.

Matthew Bowes (La Salle) added one reception for 16 yards for the Huskies.

Holy Family’s Morgan Silks (Archbishop Carroll) became the program’s alltime leader in assists after totaling 36 in the 3-1 win at Post University on Saturday in women’s volleyball.

With the win, the Holy Family University women’s volleyball team remains undefeated in CACC play at 9-0.

Silks tied the program record of 3,889 assists in the third set off a kill be senior Carly Covington, which broke a 22-22 tie leading to the Tigers winning the set at 25-23.

The record-setting kill came right in the beginning of the fourth set with Covington doing the honors firing off another kill for Silks’ 3,890th career assist.

Holy Family’s Sean Touey (Abington) had an assist in a 3-2 double overtime loss to Post on Saturday in men’s soccer.

Bloomsburg senior Mary Kate Mooney (PJP II) had nine kills and nine digs as the Huskies swept Shippensbu­rg on Friday night by scores of 26-24, 25-17 and 27-25.

Senior setter Bryn Stek (Upper Dublin) led the team in aces with five, while Alyssa Cianciulli had 20 digs to go along with four assists.

Denver Broncos’ Brandon McManus (North Penn) hit a 32-yard field goal in a 34-24 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. McManus is currently 12-for-12 on the season.
