‘Violins of Hope’ concludes with a weekend filled with events
Violins of Hope Reading, a two-week celebration centered around a collection of more than 50string instruments rescued from the Holocaust and restored by Israeli violin maker Amnon Weinstein and his son, Avshi, concludes this weekend with daily events.
HERE’S A SUMMARY:
Today: Tour the Holocaust exhibit at the Berks Military History Museum and view part of the Violins of Hope exhibit. The museum will be open special hours, 9-11 a.m., in honor of Veterans Day. Free.
Today: The Leo Camp Memorial Lecture at MernerPfieffer-Klein Memorial Chapel, Albright College, will be presented by Dr. James Grymes at 7:30p.m. Grymes is the author of “Violins of Hope: Violins of the Holocaust — Instruments of Hope and Liberation in Mankind’s Darkest Hour.” Free. Friday: Reform Congregation Oheb Sholom/Kesher Zion Synagogue, 555 Warwick Drive, Wyomissing, hosts a Community Shabbat at 6 p.m. Learn more about the stories behind the Violins of Hope collection during the service. Reservations are required to attend: RSVP to the RCOS office at 610-375-6034. Saturday: The Reading Science Center presents “The Science of Sound With Violins of Hope” at noon. Join Avshi Weinstein, curator of the “Violins of Hope” exhibit, to learn how violins are made and the science behind sound. Free.

Sunday: Immanuel United Church of Christ, Shillington, presents the Gifts of the Arts Concert featuring violins from “Violins of Hope” at 4 p.m. Tickets are $5for students and $15for others.
Sunday: The Fromm Interfaith Lecture & Recital will be held at 6 p.m. at Francis Hall Theatre, Alvernia University. The concert will be followed by a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception for the closing reception of “Violins of Hope.”
