Young People’s Theatre Workshop offers overnight summer camp

-

Tony Nominee Josh Young attended Young People’s Theatre Workshop’s overnight camp. The award winning musical Theater writing team of Kerrigan and Lowdermilk met at YPTW camp 20 years ago.

It is a place where young actors can gather to share their passion for theatre with other young people with that same passion. For five days and nights, the classes, dorms and hallways are filled with songs, monologues, scenes and dances. Friendships are formed, and young people grow in the theater arts in an environment of support and inspiration.

What is a typical day like? Breakfast in the dining hall at Eastern University in St. Davids is followed by three classes, one each in acting, singing and dancing. Then there is lunch at the dining hall.

The afternoon sees two elective classes in a variety of class genres.

Past years have included Shakespeare, Duets and Trios Singing Class, Auditioning Class, Musical Production Numbers, Improv Class, Juggling, Choreography Bootcamp and more. After electives, there is some down time to work on material. This is followed by dinner at the dining hall.

In the evening, there are seminars. One night there is a Masterclass where some students sing and get critiqued by a visiting artist.

Other evening seminars have included make-up tutorials, yoga, tango dancing, comedy sportz, stage combat training, a pool party, acting for the camera and more.

The final evening sees the campers sharing what they have learned with one another in a 2-to 3-hour joy-filled session of music, dance and drama. The following morning everyone heads home. It is a special time of discovery and fun.

Many campers come back again and again. And newcomers are embraced with open arms.

Give yourself the gift of theatre and take the stage at YPTW from June 26-July 1. For more invormation, visit yptw.org.
