Richard W. Donovan

-

Richard William ”Dick” Donovan was born in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 21,1935, and passed peacefully on January 31, 2022. He was the son of Greensbury William and Ethel Donovan and brother to Joan Donovan.

Prior to graduating from Dobbins High School he was recruited by the Pennsylvania

National Guard. Along with his service he spent several years flying drones at Ft. Miles in Lewes, Delaware. He was honorably discharged after reaching the rank of sergeant. He worked for Bell of Pennsylvania for 37 years, working on switching systems and retiring in management. Richard decided he wanted to continue working and briefly worked as a tour guide, he then he returned to his love of electronics teaching industrial control systems for Moore Products (later Siemens) throughout the world. He loved the job and the travel involved.

Richard lived in NE Philadelphia until 1978 when he moved to Lansdale PA, where he was a volunteer fireman for the Towamencin Volunteer Fire Department.

Richard was always known for his positive attitude, quick wit and dry sense of humor. Throughout his life Richard took great pride in building or fixing

things. Whether it was a two story addition, or fixing a vacuum cleaner, he was always ready to take on a project. He enjoyed wood working, stain glass making or just gardening, riding on his lawn tractor. He was always quick to help family and friends with projects. If something needed building or fixing or just imparting his electronics knowledge he would be there to help get it done.

He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved spending time with his family.

He especially loved getting everyone together for family reunions! One of our most memorable was a family trip to Alaska, two weeks land and sea.

Richard was married to Virginia Donovan for 49 years who preceded him in death in 2005. He was married to his second wife Phyllis Donovan for 6 years who also preceded him in death in 2013. His sister Joan Donovan preceded him in death in 1993.

He is survived by his four children Nancy Cohen, Stephen Donovan (and Peggy), Susan Breslin (and Frank), and Jennifer Donovan, as well as eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends starting 10 A.M. Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale, PA 19446, with Funeral Services at 11:00 A.M. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn/Abington, PA 19001.

In lieu of flowers if you wish to donate in his name he was fond of the American Legion and the Wounded Warriors.
