UPPER DUBLIN 5, METHACTON 2 » Even with both No. 1 players out of commission, this one was a good test for both schools in a nonconfere­nce match on Friday. The Cards swept the singles match, despite a tough three-setter at No. 2 singles where Chris Hong survived 3-6, 6-4, 6-0. Methacton displayed its depth, winning at No. 3 and 4 doubles without dropping a set.

SOUDERTON 3, NORTH PENN 1 » The Indians pulled out the win in four sets, capturing the match 25-23, 2518, 23-25 and 25-14. Nate Brown led the way with 10 kills and 8 aces, while Andrew Brown added 12 kills, 4 aces and 4 blocks.

17, DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 5 » Carroll began its defense of last year’s state 2A championsh­ip today with an impressive 17-5 win over Downingtow­n East on Saturday. Carroll jumped to a 10-2 first half lead and added 7 more goals in the second half to make the final score 17-5. Carroll was led by Kiley Mottice’s 6 goals and 4 assists. Emma Talago added 3 goals and 3 assists, and Ava Bleckley had 2 goals and 1 assist. Mount St. Joe’s 17, Springfiel­d Montco 6 >> Lauren Maher and Devin Loome each scored three goals as the Magic picked up a nonconfere­nce win on Friday. Also scoring two goals for The Mount were Campbell Donovan, Kate Donovan, Sophie Peters, Amelia Clair

and Maggie Rezza.

UPPER MORELAND 12, POTTSGROVE 5 » Molly Meakim and Annalese Messina each collected three goals as the Golden Bears opened the season with the nonconfere­nce win on Friday. Olivia Meakim and Isabel Leiter added two goals apiece for Upper Moreland, which also got seven saves from Emma Hurley. DOCK 6, LOWER MORELAND 5» Junior captain Kenzie Derstine scored three goals as the Pioneers opened the season with a win on Friday. Senior captain Emma Kratz added two goals, wihle sophomore Abby Mellinger also scored for Dock.

CRN 13, PENNRIDGE 12 » The Rams got behind 6-1 after one quarter and couldn’t recover on Friday in a SOL crossover contest. Drew Ferguson paced Pennridge with three goals and one assist, while scoring two goals for Pennridge were Franklie Fanelli, Ryan Carichkhof­f and Matt Kriney. Also scoring goals for Pennridge were Luke Lenox, Levi Souder and Matt Seiler. Kieran Banks had 19 saves in net for Pennridge.

PERK VALLEY 17, PW 3 » The Colonials fell behind 9-1 after one quarter and never recovered in suffering the defeat in a season-opener on Friday. Jared Kolson scored two goals for PW, while Matt Farrington had five goals for PV.

LC 12, SPRINGFIEL­D-MONTCO 3 » The Crusaders took a 6-0 lead at the half and coasted to the season-opening win on Friday. Connor Mann led the way for LC with 7 goals, while Pat McKeever and Mikey Kleiner each added two goals. Jack Kennedy made 10 saves in net for LC.
