Swimming pool rates approved

SOUDERTON >> Souderton Community Pool membership rates are increasing, but remain competitive with other local pools, council member Ed Huber said at Souderton Borough Council’s March 21 work session.

“It looks like income-wise, we can get our income back up. Last year was low. Last year we didn’t cover our operating expenses, but we also didn’t do sales on weekends and we didn’t have swim lessons or any kind of party rentals or anything,” he said. “We’re trying to bring all that back this year.”

Depending on the membership category, the increases range from 10 to 35 percent, council President Tracy Burke said. Overall, it is about a 12 percent increase, Huber said.

The increase is the first since 2019, he said.

“We weren’t open in 2020 and we didn’t raise the rates last year,” Huber said.

Season memberships can be purchased online at the soudertonborough.com website or at the Souderton Municipal Building, 31 W. Summit St. Members in 2021 use their existing account log-ins to register for this year.

Season membership rates range from $125 for an individual Souderton resident ($160 for non-resident) and $100 for a senior citizen (60 and up) Souderton resident ($130 for a non-resident) to $600 for a family of 10 Souderton residents ($850 for non-residents). The full list of rates is posted on the borough website.

Daily memberships are available Mondays through Saturdays, beginning at 1 p.m. (not Sundays or on July 4 or during the first hour the pool is open). Daily rates Mondays through Fridays are $20 for ages 5 through 59 and $15 for ages 5 and younger and 60 and older. On Saturdays, the daily rate is $30 for ages 5 through 59 and $20 for ages 5 and younger and 60 and older.

Last year, daily admission was not available on either Saturdays or Sundays.

Daily admission can be purchased from 1 to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays at the pool, with payments made by credit card or check; no cash will be accepted.

Open hours at the pool at Wile Avenue and Reliance Road are noon to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays. Those hours will be adjusted during the school year, for swim meets, when there are less than 10 swimmers and when special events take place.

The borough contracts with Bennington Management to operate the pool. The snack stand is run by Shelia McCoy from A+Jump Party Rentals/Cool Eats.
