TELFORD » Telford Happenings has a new happening.

Now in its second year, the group added an Easter egg hunt, which was held Saturday, April 9 at the borough’s Centennial Park.

Other Telford Happenings events include the Telford Night Market, Oktoberfest and Christmas tree lighting.

“We were looking to do a springtime event and we brainstormed and came up with an Easter egg hunt,” said Nicole Spiese, one of the Telford Happenings board members.

More than 90 children in four age groups were signed up for the egg hunt, about 60 of whom came out on hunt day, said Maura Shuttleworth, Telford Happenings events coordinator.

“It was a good turn-out considering the rain, and the grass is soggy,” she said.

Although the earlier morning rain had stopped by the time the age 8 and older group had its hunt, photos on the Telford Happenings Facebook page showed earlier groups, some of whom were shielded from rain by umbrella-carrying parents. The four age groups in the rain-or-shine egg hunts were ages 2 and under, ages 3 to 5, ages 6 and 7 and age 8 and up.

Zwingli Nursery School and Action Karate sponsored the Easter egg hunt, which also included raffle baskets, crafts for kids and other children’s activities.

“Next year, hopefully we’ll have some sun,” Shuttleworth said. “There was definitely a good turn-out for the first one and the rain and everything.”

Opening night for the 2022 season for the Telford Night Market will be June 1, Spiese said. Telford Night Market is held Wednesday nights during the summer in the parking lot at Penn Avenue and Main Street.
